The more I think about it, it sounded like a clever plan from Japan to send Yokozuna, Mr. Fuji and pyro cameraman to put at an end to the All-American hero and Hulkamania in the WWE.

Also factoring in Yokozuna and Fuji respected Canadian Bret Hart more than Hogan, there was less heat there. They even issued Bret the re-match at WrestleMania X and Bret wins on Yoko slipping on the banana peel.
