Making friends as an adult is weird and hard and awkward (that's what she said). I've hung out with some of the guys from jiu-jitsu a couple times, but that's really it. We used to hang out with couples, but those were always based on older friendships that my wife had from growing up around here.

I have a huge social circle but it's pretty much in the nature of what I do. I was also a Sigma Chi in college so that didn't hurt. Everyone is different though and I get that.

I call somebody a friend after 5 years. In my 20s-early 30s I had a lot of acquaintances, a couple of friends and we used to party hard and heavy.

If I had stayed in the south I'd have more friends. I'm still in regular contact with several people from college and law school, but they're all in NC, SC, and Georgia.

Don’t have the small town issue but a friend is the dude who will drop everything if you have an accident or if you need to borrow serious money or lend to him or you can leave your kid or dog with them or they give them to you. The rest are acquaintances. They can be cool and you can have fun with them.
