Yes these are good matches Frank and people are engaged, but one could argue that these are in the top five of both of their careers, and that Omega and Okada both perform at this level or higher for the majority of their matches.

All Dave is saying here is that Okada and Omega get the fans more engaged with the actual performance of the match itself rather than what led up to it. When WWE has tried to use that similar approach with AJ and Shinsuke it didn’t really work out to its full potential. Rock and Austin got the fans engaged in the match by what they did before it, the promos and segments, rather than in the ring and the match itself.

If a person had never ever seen Okada omega rock or Austin, and that person was alone in the arena watching in silence, the storytelling of the Omega and Okada matches would be better, in the ring. That is what Dave is saying and it’s not a hard concept to understand.

Every successful wrestler and organization has engaged fans with promos and segments rather than the match itself. This is why wrestling companies today have lost the casual fans. Causals know the shit is fake, the sell of "amazing ring work" and nothing else is not appealing to them because they know it's not real competition which is something the hardcore have completely missed the point on. Ric Flair could tell a better story in 10-15 minutes than Okada/Omega could do in 70, that's why those guys are stars. It's something completely lost on the 'workrate' era of wrestling fans that Meltzer parrots.

Starting SD now. Haven't watched since Paige came to SD. I'm glad she lost the bright red lipstick. It was a TERRIBLE look on her. She looks much improved in this opening segment.

NAILED IT.

Great post.

Big Hogg Elsworth somehow looks uglier than the first time around in WWE. How'd he do that?

Why cant we have both a reason to want to watch a match and a really well worked match ? Like Im not sayin that omega dude is the goat at this moment but you would have to be a pure hater to not see a few ways where it could actually happen. What if he does come to the wwe ? What if Njpw gets bigger and becomes a thing? Im seeing all kinds of roh/njpw shirts and shit around town as of lately

Does Njpw own Roh or are they affiliates or something from the outside lookin in it seems like they sorta share talent ?

BTW

The term 'worker' use to mean wrestlers working the fans in the arena during the match, not a person's moveset.

Far back as I can tell worker means a guy who did everything in the ring right and made it look good. EXP mr perfect shawn and bret were great workers from yesteryear .

i dont think the term has changed.
