Were they popping for him, or popping for 'Merica? I think anyone could've played that role. The Real Americans also got some of that, but they were also defining themselves as a tag team. They worked well together, had a brand logo, and a great mouthpiece for both of those promo challenged guys.

It's one of those head-scratching decisions the WWE made, that gave you the impression that getting over was a bad thing. Kind of like what they did to Bad News Barrett, and Cesero himself.

"Getting cheered are ya? Well, we'll put an end to that nonsense."

I think it was a little of both tbf. The Real American gimmick was of course over, but Swagger coming out to face Rusev felt like a real "business is about to pick up" moment. Swagger is real life legit, Rusev was being booked as this unstoppable monster and it was like WWE was finally going to let Swagger get out of the dog house and shine.

Santino's story about Cornette calling him and abusing him after his career ending neck injury is terrible. I already thought Cornette was a fucking scumbag, but this just makes it tenfold.

Cornette is a pussy. He talks all this shit, but when it comes down to it, straight pussy.

Slaps a rookie from another country, abusing his position, and talks about like he's a badass. Santino isn't getting fired and deported over your ass.

Threatens to shoot Brock and talks about it like he's a badass.

Threatens to beat Russo up, ducks his confrontation.

When a guy is lacking something in one area, you compensate by pairing him with someone to assist with this. Examples include pairing young green guys with established wrestlers in tag teams or giving a guy a manager to be a mouthpiece.

Swagger with Zeb was working until he popped for weed. It then started working again until they buried it for some reason.
