Why wont Opie talk to Anthony?
Long and short of it:
- Anthony got fired by SiriusXM last year after he was assaulted in Time Square and went on a rant on Twitter that was deemed "racist and sexist"
- Opie and Jim stayed on with Sirius, Anthony started "The Anthony Cumia Show", which later became "The Anthony Cumia Network"
- There were some insignificant jokes made about each other
- An affiliated show (Ron and Fez) waded into the fray when Fez retired (I paid tribute to Fez in these threads) and Opie made fun of Fez for getting emotional over his retirement after 25 years in radio, playing a laugh track when he started getting choked up.
- Fez then loses his shit and says "Yeah, fuck me for being sad that I'm not gonna see my fucking friend and radio partner every day. We're not popping Champagne Bottles like you did when your partner left!"
- Opie gets defensive about it, and says "I tried to save his job, but it was clear that Anthony wanted to leave, he was almost done with show and was looking to move on on his own"
- Anthony then loses his shit and did a rare free show (he charges $6 a month) entitled "Walking on Greggshells" (You can see it on YouTube, but it's 2 hrs long), where he lays it all out and says "Opie's full of shit, I never wanted to leave, we pretty much hated each other for 10 of the 20 years we were together, and we needed to bring in Jim Norton as a buffer between us". And revealed some of the shit that Opie would pull, especially how he expected everyone else to be on the receiving end of some of the most brutal roastings from the likes of Patrice O'Neal, Louis CK, Bill Burr, Rich Vos etc. but as someone as someone said anything in his direction, he'd spit his dummy out and get mad.
- Opie responds, playing the victim, saying "I don't know why he won't let me move on with my life", to the point of crying (the very thing he made fun of Fez for).
- After that, there were some minor jabs between the two, Opie saying shit like "We actually got more listeners now than ever before" and "Management likes the direction of the show now", Anthony just making jokes at his expense.
- Comedian Esther Ku made a comment on O&J that she went on Anthony's show, Opie got pissy with her, and Jim then said "Are you going to talk to Anthony at the Patrice O'Neal benefit?", Opie loses his shit again. Said "I'm not talking to that son of a bitch ever again after the shit he did to me!" Jim asks "What did he do?" Opie does that girl shit where he says "I would tell you, but we're not close enough friends for me to tell you, but he said stuff about my family", Jim said "No he didn't!" and it got to the point to Jim saying "Fine, okay, if you're gonna be like that, when the contract runs out in October, I'm gonna leave and do something else".
- Anthony then does "Greggshells 2" (although, not free this time), and refutes all the things that Opie said, a lot more aggressively this time, and has even released merchandise making fun of Opie.
- Other radio personalities and comedians like Gavin McInness, Esther Ku and a few others have commented on it, all of them seemingly siding against Opie.
Not really "long and short" or "Long and a little Longer", sorry.
