His last years he was just miserable and nihilistic, would doubt his takes would be anywhere near funny.

His last few years he was playing small clubs and doing 40 year old fart jokes that lasted 20 minutes and getting zero laughs from the uncomfortable few people in the crowd, it was pretty sad to see, it was like the fanfest scene in The Wrestler

People hold him up as some legendary figure, and he obviously had his moment in time and deserves to be celebrated for it, but he's also someone thats benefited greatly from the deification of the dead

The end of life stage is hard for a lot of people. Turns out the dancing clown is actually smart and has thoughts and feelings. They aren't just there to make you feel comfortable. Im not even a big Carlin guy but I did respect how he tried to make the room tempature IQ people think a little.
