In the 80's Dave's 5 star matches was mostly a mix All Japan, All Japan Women's, and various NWA territories.

In the 90's it was damn near all All Japan and All Japan Women's with the occasional New Japan or lucha match. Guy was obsessed with the 4 Pillars and the All Japan Women by that time and I agree, that was some of the hardest hitting dope pro wrestling of all time.

While I was vaguely ware that there was professional wrestling that happened in Japan, I didn't look into it at all until I read Jericho's first book and he talked about how his match with Benoit there was his favorite at that time. Making a point to find that one in the very very early days of YouTube was my first Japanese match I watched

A lot of people joke about Dave and other smarks love of companies like All Japan, but getting into tape trading in the late 90's and watching those 4 Pillars matches is what eventually saved my wrestling fandom a few years later.

Misawa starting Pro Wrestling NOAH is the only thing that kept me watching wrestling during those dark ages in the 2000's of WWE sucking, TNA sucking, and most indie wrestling sucking outside of the occasional match. Kenta Kobashi's 2 year run with the GHC Heavyweight Championship from 03-05 is probably my favorite world title run of all time. NOAH was the perfect wrestling promotion to me from it's start until around 2010 and I wouldn't have even given it a second look if I didn't already know about guys like Misawa and Kobashi. Who knows if I would still even be watching wrestling today if I didn't stick around because of what Misawa created.

Nothing says "80's blue collar character" like a lunch box, hard hat and smoking manhole cover <lmao>

Sheesh

Another thing you gotta take into account with this fancy pants star rating, in the 80's it wasnt always Dave rating these matches, none of this shit was on tv back then so he took arena reports from correspondents that were at the house shows and included their match ratings in the Observer

In the 90's, obviously it became more tv heavy and today everything is on video somewhere so those are all his

Who the fudge is James Harrison?

Kenny Omega fought Cody at at the G1 Special in San Francisco, I was there, I seent it!

This list feels like shenanigans, Star

Some guy named James Harrison who edited it trying to get himself over <lmao>

Dave Meltzer gave a NJPW match 5 stars in 1983 is true which is what I was using it for, tho.

But I guess Wardlow won't be involved now
<6>
EDIT: Nevrmind, it's already in the can

Good to see wrestling being represented a lot on the new American Gladiators.

Kamille, Wardlow, Jessie Godderz, J-Rod and Rick Boogs are all Gladiators with The Miz hosting the show.

Although if I had the book, Wardlow, Boogs and J-Rod would probably be the only ones I would've picked. The Miz, Kamille, and Godderz can hit the bricks!
