I've seen lots of people in certain circles say it was a bad call but I dont know, Superstar probably wouldve been huge for a minute but how long til he flamed out anyways?
People say losing the belt is what caused his depression and harder drug abuse but how would he handle being an even bigger star, would the same demons arise?

Sr brought in Backlund because he specifically wanted a clean cut all American babyface, in part because he was tired of the crazy "ethnic" fans causing fights and chaos in the arenas behind Bruno and Pedro, Superstar fans probably wouldve presented some of the same problems

Backlunds title run was a big success, regardless of what people like to retcon these days, he drew money for several years and gave the kids someone to root for

Im not against Superstar, I think it would be interesting to see how big he coulda got, I just dont think its as simple as people think it is, Superstar was never able to regain that heat ever again in any territory after that one year run, I think thats something to take into accoumt

Vince Sr would've taken the belt off of Hogan after a year or so and put it on Tito Santana.

I don't know why Kris is bitching about WWE celebrating the 40th anniversary of Hulkamania. Like why wouldn't they?

Are you part of Rock Rims Classic California Wrestling group?
Theres been a long conversation going on in there the past week or so about all the invasions and attempted takeovers going back to the 1950's, some really great posts from long time fans that watched a lot of it live

It was started by the Bob Roop podcasts, the host of that show even came in to defend himself after Rock broke down the problems he had with the podcasts

Its been quite an entertaining discussion with lots of great history

It's a shame what they did to the LA Dojo. Went from an invite only place for wrestlers under contract to New Japan with Shibata creating killers. To losing Shibata and becoming a plain ass wrestling school where any mark can cut a check and come in with head trainer Fred Rosser <Lmaoo>
