I really never understood why Fritz didn't get his son's help for their drug abuse. I know the 80's were a different time especially in a hyper masculine world like pro wrestling in Texas as far as things like rehab but damn, they were all functioning drug addicts and he just seemed to not care.

Keeping up the public facade is more important than dealing with some things that you dont wanna think about, cant admit that weakness to the world or to yourself, thats not what strong tough Texas men do

Im not saying its as big or as horrible as the Joe Paterno-Penn State stuff but i think its a similar mindset, what were doing here is more important and we dont talk about those kinda things because were not mentally equipped to understand and deal with them

"They were able to save Kerry's foot.......and it's anticipated he'll have a complete recovery."

It's really sad. He couldn't face the reality and had to lie to himself even after they started dying.

The Chowchilla kidnapping documentary that I watched a few weeks ago took an unexpected turn halfway through it
I guess that case was one of the first milestones in the fight to get childhood trauma recognized as a medical condition or something like that, I dont know I kinda tuned out at that point, I was only interested in the nuts and bolts of the crime but you may find it an interesting watch for that part of it

Dang! I never heard of this. I'm not sure if it's a recognized mental disorder, the DSM 5 would have it if they accepted it as one. Between me and you, I'm not sold on psychology being this magical thing to fix us. I'm still just an undergrad so I'm not making any bold judgment yet but I didn't use psychology to fix myself. There are for sure some helpful things there. I'm going to take what I can and use it but I am open to many things. Going to follow the lead of my favorite psychologist

@Pliny Pete In that similar mindset, I liked the little scene at the wedding where Kevin says "I dont think you need to go to Japan next week" and then they both start hysterically laughing because the idea of missing a booking is such an impossible thought despite that he's throwing up blood

@Sara In case you were wondering, Kerry didnt get into a crash on the same night he won the NWA title either, it actually happened 2 years later
He crushed his foot, rushed his return to the ring because the family and the promotion needed him, and that reinjured his foot which then had to be partially amputated, only part of his foot though, not his whole calf

Humorous little side story, you wanna how the world found out Kerry was missing a foot?

He was fighting Col. DeBeers in the AWA in Las Vegas(I think) and DeBeers grabbed Kerrys leg and his boot slipped off and exposed Kerrys stump foot

Kerry scrambled to put his boot on as everyone stood there frozen in shock because up to that point everyone believed he had recovered and just walked with a slight limp

Even then, the story was only known about in lockerroom whispers and super smart fan inner circles

Did he get the whole foot cut off? I always thought it was just half for some reason.
Like Pete stated above, they did actually save the foot and he was recovering. He rushed it though and was also fucked up and walked on it without crutches crushing it. It got infected and they had to amputate

Vince McMahon actually tried to get Kerry barred from wrestling in Chicago in the days leading up to the big Superclash III PPV Kerry-Jerry Lawler title unification match because of his missing foot

Help yourself but dont hurt the other guy

In hindsight......one coukd say Vince was trying to do everyone a favor.

Not just the public facade but in being a man. I’m not from Texas or a wrestling family but here in Georgia you ain’t a real man if you can’t handle your liquor or your drugs. Even if you are a teenager at the time.
