@Pliny Pete I finally found some footage of a promotion that aired here back in the 90s on our local UPN affiliate. The "co-host" was a puppet and they would tape matches at Tommy Rich's beloved Alpharetta Auction Barn.

Uncle Sammy, the puppet Kris talks about?

I haven't listened to BTS yet but I read the rundown and there is a lot of good stuff on there, looking forward to it

The Morton Downey Jr segment is gold. "I been in the rasslin business for 15 years and ain't no promoter ever tried to make love with me!"
Also did they ever explain on TBS or in syndicated programming leading up to the 88 GAB that the Maryland Athletic Commission had a new a rule where they could stop televised matches over bleeding? I still think the ending was dumb but Luger chasing Flair on the house show loop did great business.

I love these 70's/80's local commercials
That's why I love Portland on the stream. The actual product kinda sucks but it's all local commercials for used car dealers and appliance salesmen.

Sour grapes! Sour grapes!

Was it a new rule, I thought it was just a longstanding rule they had in Baltimore, I definitely don't remember any foreshadowing by talking about the blood rule on tv, I don't see how you could work that in naturally without giving away the finish

And such a stupid fucking finish it was, storyline wise it was the perfect way to give us fans what he had been waiting for for years, a huge title loss for Flair

I know he lost the belt to Dusty in '86 and Garvin in '87 but both of those were just random title defenses at house shows, they weren't the result of a storyline so we hadn't got that long build up of tension with the final big blowoff at the end which is something we desperately craved

And then to do it with such a cheap bullshit carny finish as that, it mighta been different if Luger was bleeding buckets like Kerry at Superclash III, but that little spit of blood just pissed everyone off and made them feel robbed for their hard earned money that they spent on the PPV
