I am a firm believer in washing EVERYTHING after whenever I go to class. This includes my belt. Problem is the stripes on my belt look like they are just medical tape or something so they get messed up in the wash. I try to salvage them and apply touch up tape but this is really a losing battle.

That being said I saw somewhere about people taking the tape off and just sewing on stripes. I think that is a great idea as washing my belt won't be such a pain.

Anyone do this? Would some instructors who gave the tape stripes be insulted if I sewed stripes on... ???

I doubt your instructor would care.

Personally I just replace the tape whenever I get around to it.

The best trick for keeping stripes on is putting a line of super glue over them. It soaks into the tape and makes them almost like a soft plastic. Try it, I think you'll like it.

1. Take a strip of cloth, fold it in half to form the stripe.

2. Sew cloth onto belt

Seems kinda self-evident.

I use regular finger tape and just throw a bunch of layers on. I wash my belt everyday with no problems with them falling off or looking stupid.

I've never had a problem with the stripes coming off, but at the same time I don't them curling up and what not. I personally think it looks silly when the belt is in pristine condition.

Why do you wash your belt? Lol. I am a clean freak and never wash my belt. I even caught staph and never want it again. I still don't wash my belt.

You mad bro?

I know that some guys will replace their stripes with white hockey tape, which does not come off.
I have had success with just throwing one stich through the stripes loose end. No need to sew on an entirely new cloth stripe.

^ Yes sport tape is much more adhesive and durable than medical tape.

Back when I had them, they were just basic medical tape. I use to just yank them off, wash it, then apply a new set of them myself when it dried. Honestly, why would that be a problem? I've never understood why so many guys seem to live in constant fear that trivial actions will be viewed as disrepect.

personally I dont wash my belt but if you do I would think reapplying the tape would be pretty simple.

Reapplying the tape is way too simple, we need a thread about it.

If I remember I just tape again if needed after washing. I have to admit I don't pay lots of attention to stripes and it doesn't seem like that big of a deal where I go. If people at your school care more the superglue sounds like a good idea.

You can't put permanent stripes on your belt! What if you're like the TS from that other thread and feel like you're a disgrace. How would you remove your own stripes then?!

What are you a zebra? If the stripes come off they come off.
