English is not my first language. At least, not my mother tongue. When I am away and speak exclusively French for awhile, my English gets a little worse and my accent gets stronger. It’s not this extreme though

big difference is, english is her first language. she was born and raised in america...grew up with american friends...went to an american school.

I’ve never seen anyone upset by this. But there a lot of people who are utterly perplexed at this linguistic phenomenon.

You do know she is half Brazilian right? That she probably associates and hangs with Brazilians right? That she may have picked up their dialect, speech inflections, etc right? The same when some wigger like Eminem acts “black” because he grew up in the hood.

No it’s not the same for several reasons: 1. there are videos and recordings of Eminem talking like that since he was young, while videos of Dern from only a few years back shows she talks like a Valley girl 2. Eminem’s urban accent is very slight, in that he still speaks perfect and understandable English, while Dern sounds like English is her second language, is hard to understand and times, and doesn’t use proper syntax or grammar. Thiago Alves and Cláudia Ghedela speak better English then her, and that makes no logical sense.

Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s sexy and I hope she does well in the UFC, but let’s quit pretending she isn’t exaggerating her accent to an unbelievable extent, because she wants to identify with and be indentified by her Brazilianess
