These scalpers are bonkers. I miss being able to lock in a pre order in person and avoid all this reselling garbage. It just further encourages more and more people to resort to it for the price these things are going for in the secondary market. I remember when COVID first hit and the Switch was impossible to find. Then there was some news story about a kid that wrote a bot to scoop them all up. It’s ridiculous that these giant corporations can’t (or won’t) counteract some random kid.

I'm a bit surprised Sony/MS haven't done more to combat this. I assume like most consoles these are being sold at a loss, so console makers are going to have a bunch of consoles not generating them money because scalpers have them instead of consumers.

I'm still not confident I'm getting mine lol they haven't cancelled the order but it's supposed to be out for delivery in just over an hour and I've received no update. The order is still pending too.

There's a little number underneath my order that says 834/9000 as well. Not sure what that means.

Not really sure what they can do once it hits the vendors.

I got mine directly from Sony, and the process was painless.

I don't think they can do anything unilaterally, but it seems like they could work with vendors to improve the situation (or simply prioritize vendors that have a system in place to actually get consoles to consumers). Just as an example to illustrate the idea, they could refuse to provide Amazon with consoles unless Amazon curtails the ability for third party vendors to sell PS5s at an exorbitant markup. I'm not saying that's practical or makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but there have to be some things that can be done.

Apparently one of the ways scalpers are scooping consoles so quickly is by skimming html code (I don't know how the particulars of this work). Apparently stock sold out today at Argos before it even went up. Basically, Sony could encourage vendors to do more.

Got a delivery notification that it'll be here between 20:57 and 22:00!

Yeah I didn’t realize how lucky I got when preorders opened up. Can’t imagine how frustrating it’s been to fight the scalpers and overwhelming demand.
I was undecided earlier last year on what console I'd get otherwise I would have just pre-ordered it. Took too long making my mind up between Xbox and Playstation. Just got a notification that Argos have 10 deliveries left before they get to me!
