Media Pros react to Fury vs Francis announcement

UFC shills then: Francis F’d up without ufc footage and marketing muscle no one wants him let alone Tyson fucking fury.

ufc shills now: no one will buy this
Are you going to buy it?

Same here. It makes no sense. I have always loved MMA, and I watch it for and support the fighters. I could give a rats ass about the welfare of the organization or it's owners, officers etc. An organization fails? It's fighters go elsewhere, and other organizations form, no big deal.

The UFC used to be exciting... before Dana and company sold out on everything they stood for. Remember back in the day... when rankings mattered? When the top fighters fought each other, when gimmick freakshow fights only happened in boxing. All the things Dana used to shit on boxing for, and now he has pulled a complete 180. If the UFC closed up shop tomorrow and folder, I could care less. Just a whole bunch of free agents that can go fight elsewhere, and regain control over their careers. Sometimes I wish it would happen. The UFC is just a bland and stale watered-down product now.

I want the PFL, and OneFC to succeed. I want fighters to fight as free agents each and every fight. I want fighters to be able to fight the best other fighters in their weight-class, regardless of organization or affiliation. I want fighters to be able to do what they need to to earn as much as they can during their limited careers. Yes, I am aware this is just a pipe dream, but honestly, it would be a fight fan's heaven. What Ngannou and Nate Diaz are doing now is a step in the right direction. It's not a solution, just a step. Fighters having success elsewhere outside of the UFC will make other fighters seriously contemplate other options.

Dana tried his absolute hardest to cock-block both Nate Diaz and Francis from being able to do that, and both resisted. Now, both Diaz and Ngannou stand to earn their biggest paydays ever in their respective careers, and outside of the UFC as well.

If anyone think Dana gives a shit about any fighter before himself, I have some prime real estate in downtown McMurdo Base to sell you. May/Mac was never going to happen until the UFC got their 30% from McGregor's purse. The UFC's HW champ boxing Fury was never going to happen. Until Francis made it happen on his own. How does the UFC respond? Dana's super-excited to make Jones vs. Fury a thing.

Amazing how things change when it is in his best interests and not the fighter's. Dana would be nothing without the break and opportunity that the Fertitta's gave him. You would think that would give him some clarity and perspective on what enabling others to try to do and achieve might result in. Rather than try to lift Ngannou up, they chose to beat him down and try to strangle him with an unfair contract.

I am actually quite glad Ngannou is accomplishing what he has been lately. And when he boxes Fury, he's almost certainly going to get humbled pretty quick. But he's living his dreams, on his terms. Just as much as I would like to see Diaz beat Jake Paul, I don't really expect it. Given how there has been some speculation about Paul's fights being works, the one thing I truly believe is that I just can't see either Diaz brother taking a dive just for a payday. Win or lose, I think everything will be above board in their fight.

A pro boxer boxes a MMA fighter in the ring? 95% of the time, the MMA guy loses. A pro boxer fights a mixed martial artist in an MMA fight? 99% of the time the boxer loses. Either way, it's pretty hard to look at the loss as a blemish on their record or tarnishes anyone's legacy. If the gypsy king KO's Big Frank, well, that should not come as a surprise to anyone.

The armchair quarterbacks pissing on Francis for the decisions he is making is laughable. The fighters are the ones spilling the blood, earning the wins and fans' hearts, wearing the losses and suffering their injuries for our enjoyment. Throwing your weight or support behind the organization makes no sense. Root for the fighters, not the ones controlling them. Go watch a Lakers/Bulls game. Or a 49'ers/Eagles game. Or a Habs/Bruins game. No one, and I mean no one... is in the stands cheering "Go NBA!", "You got this NFL!" or "Yay NHL!!". The sport should be about the players, just as MMA should be about the fighters, not the organization.

This was absolutely perfect, from beginning to end! Also, I wasn't aware of what Nate has been up to, but it sounds like something I want to follow.

100%. I don't have much of a desire to watch (though I will), I'm more just happy for Francis. Fury without a doubt should be fighting Usyk next, hopefully they find a way to make it happen after this.
Right. Zero chance I pay. I might watch. But it may be playoff baseball. But happy dude got what he wants. Let's see how it plays out though.

Sir, let me know when you have proof of any of that.
Nobody gave a fuck about that fight until everybody and their mother pushed it down your throat.

That fight was dog shit before it ever happened.
Conor got toyed with an stopped, and only hit Floyd with one really good punch.

Nobody asked for it, and nobody cared until the UFC pushed it, and if you were paying attention then you'd know that I'm right.
4.3 million buys say you're wildly wrong. Especially considering the ufc has only ever done half that like once

Big Frank is an absolute Legend

The fight makes sense for Fury. He's probably to good of a boxer to take damage and will make bank in a relatively easy fight.

Big Frank dared to live out a big dream and got it.

Everyone wins except Dana

can't they just get the money and not even fight? like, what's the point of it? result won't surprise anyone, neither will get hurt, it won't be spectacular, it will be the usual cringe fest from fury. it's literally a waste of time and money and makes the entire "pugilism" world look even more clownish than it already does.

Im a big francis fan. Francis did the right thing. He stood up to the ufc and made his own way.

Bet everything you own on fury.
It’s not clear yet whether you’re even able to bet on the fight since it’s still potentially an exhibition.

You think futbol fans just care about the players and not the league they play in? Racing fans? Baseball fans?

you think fans follow basketball players and not basketball leagues? Hockey fans?

The product we consume isn’t just a bunch of one off individual fights. The orgs are self contained shows and a perpetual reality show. It’s easy to understand even if you don’t like it.

Most fans don’t root for orgs they follow orgs. They have consumption preferences.

some of us will watch Mighty Mouse or Moose wherever they fight. But we can also understand that many won’t follow them to another platform in a different reality show. Just like many futbol fans won’t watch Messi playing in the states (he’ll pick up some new viewers as well).

Biggest joke in boxing? Clearly that guy doesn't remember Floyd and Conor.

This is a way bigger joke than conor v Floyd

Floyd had one foot in retirement and wasn't holding up a unification fight, that boxing fans are dying to see (manny fight excluded, but that's pre conor)

Francis is not close to Conor in star power, especially among casuals.

Fury is getting so much hate right now from Boxing fans, even former fans like me want him to retire

It's good for francis, that's the one good thing to come out of this, but I'm a boxing fan first and there is no fight in mma or boxing that I want to see more than usyk v Fury

So fuck this farce, not only will I not pay for it? I will also not watch. It's Fury I am angry with, not big Frank

Rant isn't aimed at you, just general lol

So it's officially a pro bout? My interest level is going to take a nose dive to 0 if it's an exhibition.
It is an exhibition match unless Furys title is on the line, and/or the fight result counts toward their professional boxing records.

I still love you brother, you know that,
you can rant at me anytime lol.

Luckily for me I don't care about boxing anymore so it doesn't bother me in the least to be honest.
I think it's a good thing for Francis, and that means I back him on any endeavor he embarks on.

I have admire the man's balls to put his life in his dream and run with it.
Not many people have the kind of fortitude it takes to walk into the unknown, without a flashlight.

I absolutely understand your gripe and I know that it means something to you, so I won't shit on it.
Im just not on the same horse if that makes sense sir.
