So google says religion is:
1) the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
2) a particular system of faith and worship.
3) a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.

But religion is your most basic beliefs. It isn't what you say that you believe but what you act out is what you REALLY believe.

Jordan Peterson says your religion is the axioms/beliefs at the foundation of how you act.
See how their is no supernatural element to it.

I think the definition of religion needs to be updated to this definition as in history these most basic beliefs came from religion and myth and etc, but now with some claiming to not be religious due to being atheist, they still draw on basic beliefs to act in the world.

Now, these basic beliefs and axioms we operate on as if they are true came from somewhere. They appear first in story and drama because we cannot articulate them. Then after much thought we articulate them.

So, in a way it is funny when people say they are not religious and they try to tell you how they came to their basic beliefs and rationalize it, but in the end they take them on faith.

No religion was formed out of how people act and their basic beliefs, not the other way around.
That would be impossible.

The Jewish religion is the only religion given to man by the Creator God.

Hmm.....are you sure?
Meaning if religion didn't come from how people act then how did religion form exactly???
One option is DIRECT DIVINE RELEVATION
Second option is BASICALLY JUST TOTALLY MAKE UP SOMETHING you are not acting out and then decide this is how we are going to act.

Sorry, but either explain your position other than this or your position is ridiculous.

Do you think Leviticus was not formalizing the rules that the Israelites were living by?

I consider myself Buddhist, it the closest thing to a religion I've ever practiced. But I live through principle, not doctrine.

I'm similar. I got into Buddhism as a philosophy not a religion, but then my wife turned hardcore Christian and didn't want all these Buddhist books in the house, lest her god be insulted or something.

When i googled God i got this.

Maya's undoubtedly Christian, but it seems to me many who seriously consider the proposition comes to a similar answer.

(At least between buddhists and christians)

Funny, when i googled religion i got Buttplugs!!! Is that a regional thing in the south?

Religion: a bunch of horseshit invented to control the masses

Buddhism is a religion. Unless we are taking the life of Buddha as literal scientific fact.
But see how this proper definition of religion buddhism most definitely fits.

At some point you have to live by rules that you arrive at not by science but some other means...like faith.

Now, religion has the benefit of giving you the wisdom of 1000s or at least 100s of years of collected wisdom.

Either at least try reading the OP or leave. I don't care about you being butthurt about religion.

You said the definition of religion needs to be updated. I agreed with you

I don’t believe religion was created to control the masses. It was created to try to explain the unknown. Then opportunists hijacked it to control the masses.

Jordan Peterson was correct once in his life(bill c16 is garbage). Everything else he says seems.to be dogmatic garbage that we've all heard from all presuppositionalists in the past.

Possibly. Or maybe explaining the unknown was just the selling point

Do we really need to change our definitions to be more in line with what Google says?

I find the idea that you are a self aware entity living in a free standing three dimensional reality, and that it all happened randomly, to take more faith than believing in God.

That's not what faith is nor what any scientific theory proposes.

I stick by what I said. If you think so much as a single amino acid could ever randomly assemble itself, much less entire organisms or an entire universe, then you have more faith than anyone believing in God.

I'm not saying it happened randomly. Maybe it did maybe it didn't I'm saying I don't know and neither did the people who came up with organized religion
