Theory Proof that I have done fighting (Full Contact) and been graded

In once met a fairly reputable boxing trainer at a party... who told me he was also a Kyokushin fighter in Japan back in the day.

Sat down to have a chat.

"Boxers beat them all" he said, because they have this: (showed me his fist).

"I would know"

Pretty funny conversation. I was a yellow belt then I think

Haha, typical mentality. The style vs style debate has been going on since martial arts began. MMA has definitely been huge in showing the true effectiveness of one style versus the other.

I have my opinions for mma but for self defense I don't see it as style vs style. Most self defense should be style vs nothing. Not too many bjj black belts or professional boxers out there picking street fights.

Agree. IMHO, the ability to handle and dish out violence (less skill but more violent blazes thru better finesse and skill ignoring damage inflicted by the other) and athleticism (other fighter gets tired) are more important factors than martial art style in the majority of competitions (striking and grappling styles), but even to a greater degree in street fighting. As said above, most of the experienced fighters I met were nice guys, so if you are respectful, you will never have to fight them. As I said in another thread, I have met tough guys and cream puffs and in-betweens at every gym and dojo of the different styles I trained in over the last 45 years, so that has formed my opinion of the importance of style. However, rules of competition will elevate one style over another and thus make the martial arts style more important than what I have stated.

Since this thread was a refutation to all the conspiracy theorists.

I want to pay tribute to my hall of fame conspiracy theorist

Originally tkd was about self defense in fact the first thing learned in the 90s was defensive grappling movements and one punch one kill.

The sparring is for a sportive aspect it really doesn’t have much to do with mma albeit you can learn to translate what you learn from tkd into a cage fight.

Forms are actually teaching you and creating body awareness of moves you actually can move In a self defense situation if you know how to reverse engineer the movement.

Board breaking is simply to show off that you are technically sound in a one punch one kill scenario. At least that was its original intent then of course people made a sporting spectacle out of be by doing trick board breaks like jumping 360 sidekick/crescent/ roundhouse.

If you go to a real karate school not tkd it is some of the hardest training you will ever do and it is definitely transferable to combat sports just look at machida.

Traditional TaeKwonDo is a little bit better than Karate because its continous sparring format and has face punching.

You learn some distance management. Develop power on the mitts.

Has some grappling moves too.

Traditional karate has no target practise, stop format sparring(which induces awful habits). But they do focus a lot on explosiveness.

TaeKwondo doesnt really have a mechanical preference.. you can kick snappy, you can kick thrusting...

But its fine as a C-level self defence.

Karate is very good for one thing... TaeKwondo is a little bit broader but not as disciplined.

And of course you drill spin kicks which no traditional karate school does.

Thats why I had to pick TaeKwondo.

When you are beginner, you pivot, chamber and kick.

When you are advanced you don"t, it"s all in one movement. Like below

And you should swing your arms in full Contact regardless if it's Karate or Muay Thai. It increases momentum. And more momentum more POWER. Get THE job done

He is right.
Boxing beats all.
