Proof that 'American Psycho' was just a delusion..

I like when he is confessing his crimes after his killing spree and just randomly calls that homeless dude a :eek::eek:. "I killed Bethany, my old girlfriend, with a nail gun, and some man uh some old :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: with a dog last week"

S'just something about the way he says it that makes me laugh.

I also like the part where the ATM tells him to feed it a kitten.

But yeah, I was always of the mind that it was an elaborate fantasy of his, to escape from his otherwise meaningless materialistic life.

Actually, the gay dude with a dog is in the book and not the movie. Some sharpie and a lispy queer.

As far as it being real or not, there is no correct answer. BEE will not say it did or didn't. Harron says it did in commentary but the movie does not support that conclusion. But when you have psychosis you do not know what is real or fantasy.

It is a very faithful adaption of the book.

Of course it was delusion. He dropped a chainsaw on someone from like 4 stories up. That's not realistic.

A co-worker of mine and I are BIG fans of the film. When it would be really busy at work and he'd have a line, I'd get behind him and pretend I was doing something with some medicine bottles. I'd look to where the patients couldn't see and yell out LOUDLY :)

It was awesome for him to try and keep a straight face as I said it!

I thought this was made very clear when the police start chasing him at the end and he shoots 50 times without reloading and blows up a cop car with 2 shots to the gas tank. He even looks at the gun like "WTF" right after he does it. Then the lawyer says Paul Allen is still alive as they find the drawing that details every single murder he's committed in the movie. Seemed pretty damn straight forward to me.

haha, yeah; he turned into Die Hard in that scene; was all fake.

Yes, the book is phenomenal. However, that doesn't take away from what is a great film.

In all honesty, when DiCaprio was attached to that film it was a big deal, then Bale got it and no one really cared and it worked out for the better. When watching Bale's performance, you realize Leo couldn't have played that role. Bale was absolutely perfect. This might be his best performance.

I think I read in an interview with the author some of what he did was real and some delusion and that he was killing people.

That's the vibe I got as well.

Great book. I almost didn't watch the movie because it was obviously not going to be as hardcore. Good movie though.

Oh helax and dance...

The movie made it very clear that the killings were daydreams/delusions

But when you have psychosis you do not know what is real or fantasy.

The exact ending the movie had. It had supporting evidence that what he did was untrue, but it gave you the feeling at the that it felt real. You almost want it to be real. It has you leaving the movie very confused on what you just saw and wondering if it was all pointless or not. You recount everything as if it was real and consider everything as a farce. What was real and fake was completely grey.

I love how it keeps you guessing though all the evidence points towards psychosis.

Hell, the title is American Psycho and people still don't want to believe all his murders were imagined.

The movie gave hints throughout that it wasn't really happening, but in case there was any doubt that ridiculous shootout with police helicopters at the end should've made it obvious that he was imagining all this

That is not proof

2 things are very possible. 1) some of the murders happened -- i think the bum did. 2) some murders were real but his imagination gave them some degree of fantasy

It is very ambivalent. Did Patrick leave Paul's answering machine message about going away? Did his lawyer really see paul allen or did he mistake him for someone else which happens repeatedly? The murder of paul allen was not crazy Die Hard shit like later in the movie.

Thing it is NOT ALL CLEAR.

The book and movie made that part clear. But what really happened we don't know since it was from Batemans point of view. The whole point was he doesn't know himself what is real or fantasy anymore and shallow people around are of no help because half of them can't even tell him apart from other coworkers let alone Paul Allen who could be missing for a while and everything things they just saw him last week.

Basically, the people in his life are so materialistic, self centered and shallow they wouldn't even notice if he was murdering people. And if they did, they would look the other way and smile so it didn't effect their shallow lifestyle. Some was in his head, like the cat/ATM, the car explosion. But this is what made things so screwed up for him, he himself isn't sure if he is really killing people, and he very well may be. I mean there was a detective, there was the lady who told him to leave the apartment and gave him a very dark look (as in she may have cleaned the place to make it sellable, nobody wants a murder apartment, what would that do to her self centered life). All in all, we are supposed to be as confused as to what was real as Bateman, a delusional psycho.

After he supposedly murders Paul Allen, he puts the corpse in a body bag then drags it down an elevator and through an entire lobby with it leaving a trail of blood the entire time. Then on the street he runs into that f*ggot Luis Carruthers who sees him stuffing the body bag into the trunk of a cab, blood everywhere, and merely asks if it's Armani? Cmon now

I agree tho that the bum killing might've actually happened. I just question how he happened to be in that entirely desolate part of the city with his work briefcase at what appears to be the middle of the night

... I'm pretty particular about things like recycling, composting, picking up litter, speaking up against oil companies, developers and any other organizations or individuals who abscond from their obligations to do what's right...

Environmental nut imo.
