You actually have a point. When a fight like that takes place, a ref never forgets. He probably feels he has to leave the window open for the fighter to pull off a miracle. It explains his 'warrior' comment.


Still, in that last fight, there was a certain number of strikes landed without a single returned strike when 'intelligent defense' had been off the table for some time.
