Prime Volk came to a crescendo when Islam tried to shoot on him and he said "Uh-uh!" as he stuffed it.

Crazy part is Volk hasn't fought anyone besides Lopes, Yair, or Ortega out of the whole UFC top 15. For a guy who's been champ so long it's bizarre there are so many guys he's never fought.

it's because the UFC, in their infinite wisdom, decided to feed every surging contender to Max FIRST who Max promptly beat. it's the same reason why Max fought him 3 times. because Max was stealing everyone's shine BEFORE they even got to fight Volk.

so basically Max beat the majority of the division, got a title shot and lost x3

Likeable guy but he lost that fight to Lopes he got a massive gift.

He was literally running away in the last round he didn't want to engage Lopes. He also got dropped and put in survival mode in round 3 (or was it 4?).

Nobody actually thinks Lopes won. Stop

Yeah that shit was pretty dumb, I was against the 2nd rematch too before it was scheduled. Max sort of deadllocked the division and isolated Volk from everyone except Ortega and Yair. Both those guys are good, but I'd say they never stood out to me as #1 contender material because they seemed to have something missing in their game.

Maybe. I will say that the best Volk I remember watching was against Yair. Felt a bit like Anderson's performance against Okami. Sort of a one last glimpse of what he was.

Past your prime isn't the same as shot. We mix those up a lot around here. Anderson still had some in the tank until the break.

I think his speed and movement still look pretty prime, but his chin is definitely very diminished and will be his undoing. No one is outfighting him at 145, even Top was busted up and losing till he landed the punch against the cage.

Makhachev twice and Ilia were just better. Diego was not an easy run as well.

He is still in his prime, he just faced extremely tough competition three times in a row.

Why not retire on a high note? He's clearly losing a step and that chin is going to completely go in the next couple of fights.

Lopes is a big strong FW. Easily one of the strongest in the division. Lopes looked much bigger. What did you expect was gonna happen?

Volk looked great. Beat a rampaging FW in his prime. Islam and Ilia are a class above Lopes. Volk is still elite and I'd favor him over any FW at the moment.
