Prime Silva vs Prime Adesanya

Silva is a nothing without his vitamins. He beat math teachers; overrated guys who won two belts in some fixed Japanese MMA organization; ducked some hip-hop French Canadian; avoided Evans and Machida at 205; beat the fake Michael Jordan of BJJ; Nate not so Great Marquardt; had issues with a fake thug from Oregon; lost to a one eyed Blur fan; and beat countless other guys who weren't that good.

Every top five fighter now would smash him. With or without vitamins.

Ask Chris Leben.

“1 eyed Blur fan”

You’re definitely either a Manc or from Northern England amiright?

How does this matchup go?

Let’s say that Izzy hit his prime with the Gastelum win.

I have only watched Anderson Silva fights on the internets, I did not follow MMA when he was in his prime.

Silva was just about the greatest striker in the game back then. Izzy is as of right now.

Their fight happened when Silva was already old as fuck and Izzy was a lot younger, but I feel like he was not in his prime just yet. He had not been through a high level war like the Gastelum fight, which I think a fighter has to have gone through to reach his peak. It’s the biggest exp. boost (see what I did there) for an individual to meet his equal and persevere.

Silva, of course, has been there and done that.

Silva, not even close

Anderson in his prime was feared like nobody else in MMA (save maybe Prime Fedor.) He didn't just win... he humiliated his opponents. Adensanya is a good fighter and may even end up dominating his division, but he isn't the inevitable destroyer Silva was.

Surprised people haven't caught onto how differently Israel fights southpaws.

Gastelum, Romero, Vettori - notice how all of Israel's toughest fights are against southpaws. His counterstriking game doesn't work the same against them.

Without Flintstone Vitamins Silva gets slightly outmatched.

Anderson is the more talented and dynamic fighter, but Adesanya is far more cautious and takes far less risks inside the cage while also being a bigger guy.

It would play out the same way as Mohamed Ali vs wladimir klitschko IMO. It would be a very boring fight where a physically bigger man used size and a very boring but effective style to win a decision over a guy that would eventually start to lose by getting frustrated and trying to make something happen.

Adesanya by decision 3 out of 4 fights.

Everyone is on gear

I feel like it would be close but I'm gonna go with Silva via decision <BC1>
Honestly I could see it going either way though

Anderson's evasive abilities are a tad more impressive compared to Adesanya's, where the former can just duck under and dodge oncoming telegraphed punches without even stepping backwards a bit (see the Forrest Griffin fight).

That being said, Izzy's leg kicks are literally levels above the kicks that Anderson is used to checking and countering, so Izzy could use those to cause Anderson serious problems.

But honestly, you have two counter strikers who tend to feel out their opponents for an extended amount of time instead of scrapping straight away, so this match-up probably won't end up as exciting as you guys might think...

Its the ground game. I think Silva would measure his distance and neutralize the striking, get Izzy to the ground and finish him. If he can submit Hendo/Chael/others he can do it to Izzy (in his prime).
