How does this matchup go?

Let’s say that Izzy hit his prime with the Gastelum win.

I have only watched Anderson Silva fights on the internets, I did not follow MMA when he was in his prime.

Silva was just about the greatest striker in the game back then. Izzy is as of right now.

Their fight happened when Silva was already old as fuck and Izzy was a lot younger, but I feel like he was not in his prime just yet. He had not been through a high level war like the Gastelum fight, which I think a fighter has to have gone through to reach his peak. It’s the biggest exp. boost (see what I did there) for an individual to meet his equal and persevere.

Silva, of course, has been there and done that.

Silva is a nothing without his vitamins. He beat math teachers; overrated guys who won two belts in some fixed Japanese MMA organization; ducked some hip-hop French Canadian; avoided Evans and Machida at 205; beat the fake Michael Jordan of BJJ; Nate not so Great Marquardt; had issues with a fake thug from Oregon; lost to a one eyed Blur fan; and beat countless other guys who weren't that good.

Every top five fighter now would smash him. With or without vitamins.

Ask Chris Leben.

Silva's prime involved steroids.

So Izzy had best be on them too or it isn't a level fight.

That being said, i'd have taken Silva 2007/2008 timeframe.

Well Silva is the worlds best counterstriker and Izzy knows that so him trying to kick him a bit in the leg and stuff? What did you expect?

I'm gonna go with Silva, his record at that time was unbelievable. I think Adesanya may get there but he needs to string together a few defences.

I was at their fight, there was a lot of excitement in the arena but not a lot REALLY happened, great atmosphere though.

I'm a big fan of BOTH guys. I honestly believe Adesanya is the technically superior striker. He's longer, faster, uses more trickery. Anderson is my heart, no homo, but Israel would brain fuck him IMO, in a highly technical battle of wits.

I don't see Silva catching Izzy with a KO counter. Izzy by dec.

That massively discredits Anderson's opponents. Most of which were dangerous at the the time.

If anyone has to ask this question, they never followed the sport when Anderson was in his prime. Israel couldn't sniff let alone carry Anderson's jock, much as he would have loved to

Adesanya by decision, if you ask me.

They're very equal as strikers (in terms of how good they are overall on the feet) but in my opinion Adesanya is the smarter man inside the cage.
