Prime Roy Nelson

I wouldn't say he finished the fight with less damage than JDS. Maybe less visible damage. Also tell me how he exposed JDS weakness when it was a complete lopsided decision by JDS. Although I agree he has the best chin of all time

I agree. JDS-Nelson showed how amazing Roy's chin was, but also his limitations against an elite fighter who also had a good chin.

I'd have to say that I think one of the reasons he has such durability tho is because of his weight

His weight slowed him down and hurt his cardio more than it helped his punching power and chin. Also being able to fight at 205 (or even 185) means people don't hit as hard, which obviously helps even more, and he doesn't use enough grappling and wrestling to make the extra weight count. He would have clearly performed better at 205.

JDS beat him down mercilessly, he was not "exposed", the only mystery about that fight is how Roy didn't drop dead from punishment. Two more rounds would not have been "interesting" unless you are interested in seeing if a man can be rendered brain dead while remaining on his feet and fighting.

I think Big Country was in his prime between 2010-2014 ( Struve until Miocic/Nogueira )

He was the best gatekeeper to the ufc ! And maybe one of the best, if not the best chin of all times !

Remember fight against Prime JDS in 2010 when he took 100 punches in the head and JDS finishes the fight with more damaged than Big Country ! I think he was the first who exposed JDS weakness ( even in his prime ). 2 more rounds would be interrested and big country had advantage in clinch, wrestling, strenght and punch harder ! I think with a better game plan he could shock the world against Prime JDS !

I'd have to watch again because I don't remember JDS being more damaged that roy. Even so he had absolutely zero chance of beating JDS that night. He was outstruck in almost every exchanged, he failed to secure any takedowns and even got taken down himself multiple times. He had no advantages anywhere and adding two rounds definitely wouldn't make a difference because he was gassed after the first

I don't think it would have made much difference at 205 either because the guys are going to be much faster and skilled

Roy was a big waste of potential. Never really had a prime since he was never dedicated enough to be an athlete and get himself in shape. Yeah I know he still had success but imagine if he had been dedicated to strength and conditioning? Dude could have been a MW or LHW top contender. Maybe even champ.
I think he could have pretty easily been the MW GOAT. His chin and skill plus actually trying to be in peak health and conditioning? Yeah man. He would have been a legend.

Have I misremembered the JDS fight? Iirc JDS beat the snot out of him for 3 rounds while Roy couldn't get takedowns. I lived it cuz I couldn't stand Nelson

Pissed Dana off, when he won the Ultimate Fighter lol.

He did a crucifix on Kimbo Slice

There you go Sherdog.

I disagree. Too slow and not good enough tt LHW. The size of his belly actually helped him because he dealt with worse athletes but was still able to have a weight advantage. He got where he should have been. Which is a pretty respectable place.

Lol he certainly did not outdamage jds. He got the shit beat out of him in that fight.

Sherdogers, have you seen JDS face ? And his reaction after took punches in the face ? He was more defensive. Use his reach and size with distance.
Roy Nelson face was clean !
I know Prime JDS was a myth, but no he wasn't undisputed :)
Next fight, against Carwin, he was at 3 seconds to be submitted by carwin

I have no idea what he is talking about, JDS beat the hell out of him.

If Nelson had been a MW like many claim on here he would no one and been cut a long time ago. It was his fat that gave him the EPIC chin, as all fat fighters have amazing chins, and his big overhand right power which came from the belly as every fighter with a large gut has an EPIC overhand right. He excelled and had a good career because of it

His skills and talent are overrated though. He is good on the ground but not some freak, the fat allowed him to have the big power and epic chin.. great career choice. he would have just been another random fighter at MW in shape and probably cut long before he was

Those prolonged beatings from JDS, Miocic, Mir, Werdum and Barnett where tough to watch.

You knew what he was going to do but he was still able to take out legit guys like Kongo and... well maybe just Kongo since Nog and Cro Cop were past prime.

Another KG/Rumble thing going on with Roy. Roy is not a natural HW. Dude is a legit MW and could've kept like that till he got older and moved up to LW. I think Ego and discipline got in the way of a better fight career. Dude is a monster though and gave hope to big belly men and women all over the world.

Greatest chin in MMA history, and it's not even close either. No one has taken the sheer amount of life ending power shots, and still stay standing. Hell, even when Hunt landed a flus show to his chin which Roy didn't see, he still wasn't out imo (stunned, but got back up straight away).
