Big Nog:

- Better BJJ
- Better Stamina
- Adamantium chin
- Better stand up (In my opinion)

Opinions?

Better BJJ? No way Jose. Not now, not ever.

He was un-knockeable and he maybe had better cardio.

I dont know about the striking... he was good but Werdum is tricky.

>Better BJJ

no

I agree with everything except the BJJ part.

Besides the BJJ, I don't think they have much in common.

Prime Nog was definitely a better boxer. And I think his boxing > Werdum's all around stand-up. His chin was the thing legends are made of, he was definitely more in shape as evidenced by the sheer # of long grueling battles he was in.

He did not have better BJJ though. He had amazing BJJ and some of the best submissions ever in the sport. But he was not better at any point on the ground than Werdum.

I definitely think his legacy is far greater than Werdum's at this point though.

agreed. He didnt have much power, but he had good boxing skills, stark contrast to werdum's chute box wildness.

A guy with zero, I repeat, ZERO martial arts experience called Bob Sapp smashed prime Nog and almost won.

Watch nog vs barnett and kharitonov, and you will see an incredible fighter at his best.

Who was the best fighter that Big Nog outstruck? Or won major of the stand up exchanges.
Werdum held his own vs Ubereem and has great muay thai for a HW mma figher. I think Nog was the better wrestler though (not BJJ).

Overall Nog > Werdum in those GOAT rankings though.

wrong on almost all levels.

big nog had decent boxing but was super limited on the feet. Nog was good in transitions.

Werdum has good muay thai. Werdum might be the best heavyweight grappler

Werdum has better credentials, but that didn't help him in their first fight. Werdum was already a multiple time bjj world champion when he fought Nog on 2006, and he couldn't sub him. While you could say Werdum had better pure bjj skills, Nog was good enough not to get subbed by him.

Of course when Werdum fought zombie Nogueira 7 years later he made a quick work of him. Nog was no longer what he used to be, standing or on the ground.

you could say that, but i think we both know it doesnt really matter. sapp outweighed a guy who is primarily a grappler by 100 lbs or more. His style, and the guys size, plus him almost getting killed in the first minute of the fight made it a harder fight than it would have been for someone else. Same thing happened to ernesto hoost.

Better BJJ you say?

I agree with you TS, but BJJ I don't think so. but your other points are right.

2004 Big Nog > 2016 Werdum.

only for the sake of trolling,i expect ;)

cos Nogueira (and hoost) are legendary fighters who will be remembered long after we forget about sapp.
