Prime JDS vs Prime Nganou

50-45 JDS

Also Gane took down Ngannou after he fatigued, so could JDS

this wasnt even the hungry peak JDS
this fight reminds me how scary he was back then

I dont get what the Gilbert Yvel thing means. Are you saying that he's Gane or something?

Ngannou took down Gane because he had bad knees, not because he "had to". It's not like Ngannou was getting destroyed on the feet, it was his plan to wrestle Gane from the start.

Beating Mark Hunt is good, though I don't see how it's better than beating Overeem (who beat both JDS and Hunt convincingly).

Have a chance, yeah, for sure, but I'm not sure if I'd favor JDS. Too bad Ngannou lost a few years, I think he could have gone on a real run. For a while he was stereotyped to just be Derrick Lewis because people were lazy.

I didnt want to make comparison to Ngannous takedowns vs Gane. I meant to say while Yvel wasnt a very high level MMA fighter, that was because his opponents could just take him down to beat him. But he was a high level kickboxer. So JDS' win over him was impressive because he did it on the feet.

Obviously beating Reem on the feet is also impressive. But as amazing as Reem was, a lot of fighters have KOd him on the feet. Beating Hunt on the feet like JDS did was much rarer, especially before Hunt was super old.

Would I favor JDS over Ngannou? I dont know. Probably not. Maybe not. Who knows.

Prime JDS’s run to the title was incredible. In that window, I thought we might have a new HW GOAT. After the Cain beating, he was never the same fighter and afraid to let his hands go.

I think this fight is a pickem but recency bias will have more picking Francis. Prime JDS was more technical and maybe a bit faster / better on the ground while Francis is bigger and stronger.
I do feel it was a bit of a mix with Jnr, the original Cain loss maybe took something out of him but I think a very significant factor was Cain showed he was vunerable to getting backed up with relatively weak defence, something Hunt and Stipe exploited but Jnr was still good enough to take the punishment and win.

I think the Cain loses effect physically was probably more long term, they meant Jnr dropped off more a few years latter akin to say Nog vs Fedor and Sapp. Its quite hard to guage his form in that period though because he wasnt very actively, onyl fought once per year for 4 years from 2014-17.
