Prime Fedor vs Fabricio Werdum

In that specific match I dont know that the out come should be different. Fedor was never worried about jumping into someones guard. Werdum is super dangerous there. Replay it a 100 times, does Werdum complete the su every time from that position? I wouldnt think so as Fedor is no ameteur, but That situation does favour Werdum. In a stand up battle and in the clinch, prime Fedor beats both improved Werdum and butt scootch Werdum. Strikeforce Fedor probably only beats butt scootch Werdum and is competative with improved Werdum. imo.

I do have to add if Fedor came back today even close to what he was in pride I believe he could win any title he likes.

Just because he was still undefeated doesn't mean he was in his prime.

This sums up my thinking exactly.

Fedor looked bad in his two previous fights, even though he won. But would a 2005 Fedor beat a 2015 Werdum? Who knows, probably 7 or 8 times out of 10 he does.

Either way, Werdum is really good....I'd love to see him rematch JDS.

I think Fedor would take it via a gameplan like in the third Nog fight.

Was just about to post about the Hunt/Werdum fight. Hunt for gods sake was in Werdums guard for a few minutes.

People acting like Werdums guard is insta sub or something.

It's not instant sub but you just can't really do anything to him and there is also the threat of the submission, Hunt wasn't submitted but all he did in Werdum's guard was defend himself. Werdum is very hard to hit while you're in his guard or clinch.

They already fought and Werdum owned him.

What a pathetic thread choice for some Fedor fan to try and discredit the current UFC champ.

Werdum.

Fedor never proved during his prime that he could beat someone with the striking and guard game of current 2015 Werdum.

If the fight was in a vacuum (ie: their first fight didn't happen) I see no reason to believe Fedor would have approached the fight any differently. You can make your arguments that Fedor want in his prime, but he still would have ended up in Werdum's guard eventually, just live he did with everyone else, including Nog. Werdum's offensive gaurd is superior to Nog's and Werd would have gotten the sub.

He also would outstrike prime Fedor on the feet, but get clipped and dropped because his chin is suspect and Fedor has far more power.

Fedor has always been the same fighter and has always been beatable. The only argument you can make is full training camp Fedor. He looked just like he did in Pride during his last three fights in M-1.

Werdum didn't sub Hunt, Sergei, Nog the first time, Bigfoot or Overeem, didn't really threaten any of them either. His guard is excellent but its not THAT good, nobodies is the same way theres no super wrestler who can take everyone down at will and no super striker who can't be beaten standing.

If memory servesme correct, bigfoot and Werdum never went to the ground and i can assure you that as much as fabricio wanted Reem to jump into his guard in their 2nd fight, that never happened, see praying gif.

Yeah I know who'd win...Werdum already did. You can't sit here and say fedor was out of his prime because of 1 loss

He was getting lazy with training and wasn't fighting as smart, for whatever reason in his last 3 fights he started hitting the weights again and was working on his grappling again. I'm not sure what it was that caused him to not train as hard but it was around the time he started talking about god's will all the time and wearing that wooden cross. Before then he wasn't just a headhunter.

Did.

I always predict Werdum to win if it goes to the ground, don't know about standing.
I'd been saying it since Werdum's debut in PRIDE.

He is just horrible to deal with on the mat.
Even in the old fight Nogueira pounded him, I was nervous every time it hit the mat.

Tough fight for Werdum, but he is also a tough fight for any version of Fedor.

Prime Fedor fought Werdum, and he lost, cause he thought he could beat Werdum the same way he beat Nog, and underestimated Werdum's bjj.

I still believe Fedor would have won an instant rematch, though, cause he would have learned from his mistakes and (at least at that point in time) had better striking than Werdum.

You are wrong. Prime Fedor never fought Werdum. Prime Fedor studied BJJ like crazy. The 2010 Fedor said that Sambo is enough. He actually said all that.

Werdum

Prime Fedor fought him already and lost

or was fedor not in his prime anymore cause he lost?

Not sure what the latest fanboy excuse is

Fedor in a ring 10/10 times.

Fedor in a cage....lol 0/10

Well fedor always seemed to fight to his opponents strengths and danced with fire. He finally got burned, and i dont think prime really had anything to do with getting careless against one of the best mma grapplers of all time.

His ground skills, power, bulk and explosiveness all declined. Prime 237 pound GNP Fedor that ragdolled PRIME Minotauro on the GROUND looked like this:

The older, declined 230 pound version of Fedor, with horrible gnpo at the time looked like this:

He was clearly weaker and he was allways rushing at the time. He took his time with Minotauro.

With that patient approach werdum is f*cked 8/10.

The Monson version of Fedor beats him even.

Fedor's prime ended around the time he fought Sylvia in Affliction, even his trainers were saying he's slowing down. Do you follow any MMA outside of the UFC?
