So here we are, back in Japan again, because ALL ROADS LEAD TO SAITAMA
Brazilian Top Team mainstay Mario Sperry makes quick work of Yokoi. The judo based Yokoi the yr earlier had given Big Nog a tougher than expected test, but simply could not live up to it at all after that, losing most of his fights from that point out. Sucked too cos he took those losses really hard.
Crocop's BJJ trainer,Fabricio Werdum made his PRIDE debut and fought THE BIG CAT Tom Erickson. As mentioned in my other threads like this, Tom is an absolute mountainous giga-chad of a unit. One must assume he didnt have that many fights in MMA because he was in the arctic, battling polar bears for supremacy.
Unfortunatley his time away from the civilized world left him unable to deal with Werdum's crocop flavored striking, and eventually Werdum was able to get the tap on the big cat.
Shogun Rua faces the hard as nails Kanehara,a man known for taking serious beatings from guys and asking for more. This was like that. Shogun was flying all over the place, giving the fans a chute boxe showcase of beautiful flowy muay thai violence. Its here you could see Shogun might be better than his brother.
Igor Vovchanchyn sprinkled the nite nite fairydust on his fists and put Takahasi's old ass in the forever box.
Nakamura easily takes down and submits K-1 Kickboxer Stefan Leko, who had a pretty short and disastrous MMA career.
Sergei Kharitonov molly whops the shit out of Choi Mu Bae in a squash match. The staredown in this fight is MAD FUNNY THO.
Lil Nog takes the decision from Diet Reem
I think this is the first time weve seen Rampage since he went down in terrifying flames to Wanderlei SIlva in their second fight. He grew his hair out and seemed like he stil hadnt recovered from that loss. It was a close fight with Murilo Ninja here, but it wasnt the best fight. Both guys had suffered a bit and maybe couldnt give their best, and the decision went to Page, but it really could have gone either way.
Mirko Crocop is on a mission,he's after Fedor's title, and while most people didnt give Coleman a chance here, they also didnt give Big Kev one a yr earlier and look what happened there.
It was not to be.
Coleman shot in on Mirko and Mirko just brute force shoved him away like he weighed 2 lbs. That is when Mark knew he was FUCKED,and it made the Fedor fight more interesting, cos imagine if Fedor tries to get a hold of him,can he do that to him too??
Mirko then eventually trapped Mark in the corner and dispatched him with a view vicous punches.
Anyway this was a mid tier PRIDE Card, with squash matches mostly, but its fun.
I would give it 6 out of 10 Fedors.
