I didn't realize how much you guys love dramatized circus fights run by Yakuza with no PED test. lol

Pride was what got me fully hooked on mma back in 2006...so...Pride!! Still love Stephen quadros and bas!

Wanderlei vs Jackson 2
Nog vs Barnett 2
Fedor vs Crop cop
Shogun vs Iil nog
Nog vs kharitonov
Gomi vs pulver
Diaz vs gomi

I could keep going!

Pride was legit badass !!! Great match-ups of MMA legends !!! UFC seems to be up and down , good sometimes.

Which org you prefer to watch? I dunno probably the one that still exists. WASTELAND in 3......2.......

Obviously UFC is the more successful org but I enjoyed watching Pride infinitely more. And it's not because I'm part of the "current UFC sucks" crowd, I always preferred Pride. Back in the day I'd order every Pride PPV and the only UFC PPV I can remember ordering was Chuck/Tito 1

To me Pride always had the better:

- Fighters
- Environment (ring > cage)
- Rules/judging
- Production

I wish I could create tournament after tournament with this field of fighters. I'm stating at it now, pondering all of the matchups.

Vitor vs. Rampage
Igor vs. Wanderlei
Shogun vs. Vitor/Igor
Arona vs. Randleman

Igor vs Rumble would be a dream match up too :o

I didn't watch Pride when it was in its prime, did it have as much point fighting as the current UFC?

PRIDE was going away either way whether Zuffa bought it or not. Their image was ruined in Japan by the Yakuza scandal and no major Japanese TV network was going to do business with them.

Then please explain why FujiTV is doing business with Sakakibara and RIZIN?

The reality is, had Zuffa not bought PRIDE. It would have been back on Television within 2 years when the heat blew over.

The only reason they got dropped is because atm the scandal blew up it coincided with a FujiTV shareholders conference.

There was no "point fighting" because there were no points. Fights were judged on the whole, not round by round. The fighter who did more damage and showed more aggression won.

Stalling led to Yellow card (where do think Sherdog got that from?) which meant a purse deduction. PRIDE's ruleset by the 2000's were the optimal rules MMA could ever have. It was practically scientific.

- No 1 hand "grounded" rule. Four points position to be considered grounded.
- No nonsensical 12 to 6 elbow rules.
- Elbows to the head were banned, only because elbows cause cuts. Cuts lead to premature doctor stoppages, and tournaments being jeopardized.
- Ground kicks were allowed. The idea of fighters laying on their back while opponent kicks their side or goes for a superman punch is retarded, they should go for a stomp.
- Weight classes were not mandatory, because the entire premise of MMA was that a 150lb guy could beat up a 200lb guy using martial skill. In case of +30lb weight difference, smaller fighter had option to ban ground kicks.
- Martial Arts dress were allowed. I can't fathom how "MMA" can ban martial arts dress. Make you wear Reebok/Tapout instead.

Did u even watch any of the last few UFC events let alone pay for them? Give me circus and freak shows any day of the week. Funny thing that a Rogan loving cock breath like you doesn't realize that even the circus acts from pride would ass rape most of the manlets UFC shoves down our throats. And let's not get into paper champions and WMMA. UFC hype machines pushing Ronda like she's the world's top fighter, and that's not a circus act to you? At least in PRIDE you knew when a fight was a freak show there for your entertainment. UFC will put on a freak show but tell you it's the biggest fight of all time if you ll believe it

RIZIN is a different organization. PRIDE's name was tainted. You should blame PRIDE for selling instead of Zuffa for buying it.

I blame both.

So on one one hand Yakuza are bad..... but it doesn't matter anymore if they just run a different company, even though you know its the same people? The average Japanese MMA fan doesn't care about all that, it was a corporate decision. And one they most likely would have rescinded 2 years on, just like they've done with RIZIN.

PRIDE had some amazing moments. The UFC has as well. I think a lot of people look back on PRIDE with rose-tinted glasses because as many great moments as PRIDE had, it also had fixed fights, freakshow fights, and in general was a pretty corrupt organization. Of course, much of the same can be said for the UFC. I'm glad Rizin is around and I hope they can avoid the pitfalls of PRIDE. In general, I think PRIDE had the better fighters in its day, but there were also absolutely no drug test rules, so that's kind of to be expected. UFC always tried to pretend to be legitimate and PRIDE never gave a fuck. I like both. I miss the ridiculous characters and style that PRIDE had, but I wish it would be more legitimate, not less (though the UFC's recent actions haven't exactly helped that).

Self admittedly I wasnt into PRIDE at the time of its heyday. I think I really would have enjoyed it as much as you guys.
