Not singing the national anthem sounds like way more of a fan gripe than a media one.
In Argentina the football journalist are much, much more different than in other parts of the world. Same with the ultras (barras bravas).

Journalist and ultras have a lot of influence on the clubs, players and managers.

He also had Xavi and iniesta at their best for most of his career at Barca and it's easier to gel with people you play with every week.
This is very true, but Messi has a lot of power over AFA and the national team.

He has even paid for the plane tickets for a lot of the players because the AFA has left them hanging.

AFA and the managers of the national team are usually expected to meet with Messi to see who he wants to play with a long on the national team.

The team is usually referred to as Messi y sus amigos (Messi and his friends) because of that.

That's another reason why he gets lashed out by the Argentine journalist when they fail to perform to their expectations.

They are whiny high brow spoiled bitches(I would never say this at La Bombonera or Estadio Monumental) don't deserve a legend like Messi.

If he was any other nationality, especially Spanish(which he should be) he'd have his own date on the calendar. Argentina squables over bull shit, and dare criticize him.

They don't deserve him.
Like I told @Good Ole Stannis's BBQ, it's mostly the journalist, not the Argentine themselves.

Once Messi definitely retires, they're going to name some streets in Argentina after him like they did with Diego Milito.

Argentina is my favorite football country. They have the most passionate fans in the world.

What would you prefer, the old me?
