In Argentina the football journalist are much, much more different than in other parts of the world. Same with the ultras (barras bravas).Not singing the national anthem sounds like way more of a fan gripe than a media one.

He has even paid for the plane tickets for a lot of the players because the AFA has left them hanging.
AFA and the managers of the national team are usually expected to meet with Messi to see who he wants to play with a long on the national team.
The team is usually referred to as Messi y sus amigos (Messi and his friends) because of that.
That's another reason why he gets lashed out by the Argentine journalist when they fail to perform to their expectations.
