The Gaelic and Welsh areas are much bigger on the map than in reality, and note 'kon' is present in Russian, it's just slightly old fashioned, like calling a dog a 'hound' in English.
I went to Guisborough vs Whitby this evening. The attendance was 761. They have one of the old turnstiles from Ayresome Park, an ornate curved one you have to turn sideways to get through. I was just going to say the last time I saw a turnstile like that was at Ayresome Park and the cashier said that's where it's from. Ayresome Park was built in 1903. It's funny how things are stored away in your brain. I was driving along the A19 recently and saw this ramp we used to go off on when I was young, which i haven't seen for over 30 years and I recognised it instantly. Bearing in mind how much the trees have grown up since then as well.
The atmosphere was intense but good natured. Whitby started strong and we were creative with movement and passing and got shots on target early on, including hitting the bar. Then we seemed to go off the boil a bit and the latter part of the first half was not as dominant. We had the upper hand but Guisborough had prepared their defence well and were successful in limiting how much damage we could do. They play in the Northern League Division One, which is two tiers below us. For some reason both teams played in their away strips, when our home strips don't clash. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Both teams came out fast in the second half and we continued to generate quite lot of chances. Their goalie earnt his wages tonight. Finally we scored from a corner at 62. If our finishing was more accurate we could have run away with this but credit to Guisborough's defenders for pressuring I suppose. Guisborough unexpectedly equalised at 78 on the break and the game finished 1 - 1. As I've said here before I don't agree with penalties without extra time but that's what it was and
The same as Arsenal!
This was a massive result for Whitby, we have no realistic chance of making the playoffs now but this is something to aim for. We've won the North Riding cup seven times before, last time in 2017. The other semi final is Redcar Athletic vs Boro Rangers on Tuesday the 26th, and the final date hasn't been announced yet - it's usually in late April or early May. Either Redcar or Boro Rangers can get it!
A bit of trivia: our goalscorer tonight, Matthew Tymon, won the NR Cup with Marske in 2020, scoring a hat trick in their 0 - 6 defeat of Thornaby. It's an omen!

Yes. We use that word instead of Pferd sometimes too when we talk about a horse
Cheers for the match and away trip report! Taking the time to write that down for us. Nice you made it to that game aswell, interesting read as always and of course good to hear about the result! Going through after penalties adds up. Not bad how far away is the other ground from your town?
