One back for pride this time!Boro with the goal. Comeback is on, only 5 more to draw level
I honestly think there is a good chance he goes in the summer. It was talked about last summer that Barcelona had tapped him up and wanted to sign him this summer. He signed a new deal with us and got the release clause he wanted, but it's rumoured it's only for Barca or Real Madrid.
Liverpool offered 100M for him last summer, and we turned it down. I think the agreement between our club and Bruno is that if Real or Barca come in for him, we won't stand in the way.
Mount is in no way the worst of them but was the most bizarre signing for me. But yeah, Ten Hag’s signings are looking just awful overall.
I'm more and more of the opinion that no player should be going for anything like 100m, tbh.
Every time it seems to be settling down, something comes along like Abramovic, PSG and now Saudi to push it back to ridiculous levels.
You'd think clubs would invest more in scouting, but they seem content to spunk 100s millions every year with a less than an optimum strike rate.
I think it's just the number that sounds crazy to us. 100M sounds ridiculous, but is it really any different from when you lot paid 40M for Veron in 2001? or when we paid 16M for Shearer in 1996 and broke the world transfer record?
Even Carroll in 2010 for 35M is crazy. That would be the equivalent of a 80-100M transfer today.
The numbers are ridiculous now because we're talking about 100M but with inflation I don't think it's much different from other transfers we saw back in the day.
People are without a doubt just wasting money on average players, though, and sorting your scouting and academy out is the way to go. You're still going to have to bring players in because you can't produce everything you need, and the transfer fees will just keep going up.
That Neymar for 200m deal was a killer. Think us paying 85m for Pogba was the previous record. If you look at all the 75m+ deals in the last 5-6 years are massive chunk of them have flopped or underwhelmed.
Nah, Verón was under £30M. They sold him to Chelsea for around £14M, and I remember it being about half of what they paid.Don't think Veron was 40 was he? Was sure rio was after and was the record at 29mill.
Sure it's not a new phenomenon, but football inflation seems to be way higher than real world inflation.
