Think he's really overestimated his Ajax team and underestimated the Prem.

So many players are just not equipped to play this style everyone seems to insist on, notably de Gea and Maguire. It's like we brought in Mo Farrah to throw the javelin and asked Usain Bolt to do the pole vault (not that any of them are world class like Mo/Bolt, but you get the idea).

Could see him walking, but barring an absolute disaster, we'd be stupid to sack him, imo............so yeah, Poch for the Boxing day game?

Yeah, I could definitely see it happening. Very soon, the players are gonna start leaking - 'players are confused and losing faith in Ten Hag's methods' etc. Take it to the bank, another manager under the bus and Poch in for next season.

I agree but it's clear that Maguire is one of the undroppables. 80m CB, England international, club captain - no way he's being picked on form, that's for sure.

Another square pegs/round hole example. Martinez is a guy who likes to control the ball and get forward. He needs a rock in the back to play next to, and Maguire fits the bill only in stature. He’s the slowest defender United have and is constantly caught out of position.

It’s an odd pairing. I almost wonder if he didn’t want to rock an already distressed locker room by stripping him of the captaincy and benching him without giving him a chance from the start.

I can't imagine we're going to pay Varane 300k p/w to sit on the bench all season, though it's about time he got injured playing for France again.

Are Bailly, Tuanzebe and Jones still around?

It’d be very strange for the new manager to be forced to bench his most high profile signing. I’ll give it to the end of the window before completely losing it. I’m hoping that another likely embarrassing loss to Liverpool will lead him to start slitting throats.

I’d even love to see him bench everyone involved in the first 3 (likely) losses and bring in all the youth players for a run of games to send a message.
