I still can’t wrap my head around the option to buy. Is it purely an enticement for the club who is taking a guy off their hands that they may be able to get him for a reasonable price the next summer? I’ve rarely seen this work out for the selling club. The player either puts up a stinker of a season, and he gets sent back with a year less on his contract worth even less; or he balls out for his new club, who then gets him on the cheap.

Yeah, it’s basically worthless as far as I can tell.

There really weren't many of them. They said from the start they wouldn't be doing the big silly signings and that they were going to look to build over a longer period.

PSR wouldn't allow them to do a Chelsea or Citeh anyway.

I think we have made good signings so far. Botman, Tonali, Bruno, and Isak weren't really sexy names when we signed them. They were risks that have mostly paid off.

Of course. You want 80% of your signings to be calculated, thought out, shrewd signings. But fuck it, randomly getting a mental one in gets the heart beating.

One of the few times I was actually taken aback was when we signed Falcao. No build up, just bang, signed him on deadline day. Total flop, but for a week or so I thought we’d win the EuroMillions.

Crazy low, either way. He wasn't a total unknown like a (I think) Caicedo or Kante, and cost Brighton a decent ammount.


It's probably the one position in football where it's tricky to standout at a random mid table club in Portugal, France, Holland etc.
