I went to Whitby vs Radcliffe yesterday evening. The attendance was 920. The club lied to manipulate people into buying tickets online, by threatening the ground would be full, they would sell out etc., even though there was no chance of that. The capacity is 3,500 and I've never seen more than maybe 1,100. They did the same with the new tops a few months ago, saying buy buy buy online, before the physical shop opens, or they could sell out, and I found out they were being made to order. A lot of businesses do this kind of thing now. It's eerie.

They also made about ten announcements, on social media/website/tannoy, that going on the pitch is crime, don't go on the pitch. Sometimes they would specify, during the game. Of course the more they said that more everyone knew the Radcliffe fans were going to pitch invade at some point, unless they lost, which was unlikely.

Anyway 920 is a very big crowd for Whitby and there was a big turn out. There were at least three air horns and from time to time the Radcliffe fans, who were rowdy, would set off a flare. Both teams went 100% the whole 90+ minutes. Radcliffe came for the title and Whitby, I give the squad credit because there wasn't really anything riding on it for us, fought tooth and nail against a stronger side.

The game was played physically and at a high tempo. We started off very aggressively and created several chances, but they tended to be from further out and Radcliffe's goalie is pretty good, so we didn't score. Radcliffe weathered the storm and soon after they began to hang on to the ball and build up solid chances they converted one, at 26. However surprisingly we fought back and equalised seven minutes later with an accurate shot from the edge of the box. Radcliffe weren't phased though and pulled ahead again at 39.

Because of heavy tackles one or two Radcliffe players had to be subbed late in the first half, and ten minutes was added on. When the ball hit the stand ceiling I and people around me got showered with rust. I keep wondering how many games I'll have to go to before I touch the ball.

In the second half the game got even more physical. Radcliffe looked more in control but neither side created many quality chances. There was an intense midfield battle. Between 80 and 89 there were three yellow and two red cards, one red and two yellows for us, one red and one yellow for them. The crowd was very loud and the atmosphere was tense. When the final whistle went there was a big pitch invasion by the Radcliffe fans.

Whitby are mid table in 12th.
