Prem Euro 2024 Thread v1: Euro Madness Group Stage Edition

England might/probably will win but it will be 1-0 with the Gareth
Edit hmm picked Romania to win, not sure i agree but there has to be one upset i guess.
Though could say Switzerland winning is one too.

The Gareth, hahahah!

This Italy team is absolutely putrid, they are not beating Switzerland.

Two days of rest for weary players. Coincidentally I am working today and tomorrow.
And the international transfer window opens in a couple of days?

Has there been any breakout stars this Euro?
No one really standing out. Instead of a player, many of the smaller teams like Georgia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Albania looked alot better than expected. Add Romania, Austria and Hungary to the list. Regardless if they got into knockout stage.

Agree with you but if there is a team i would bet on to get a 1-0 win with 1 shot on goal that would be Italy. Scamacca header at 89th minute from Italy's first corner in the game and Scamacca's 3rd touch of the ball.

A lot of it is down to the putrid format of the tournament, imo.

Big teams know they can keep it in second gear until the knockout stages (especially if they won their first game, which literally they all did except Belgium) whereas your Georgias and Albanias have to scrap like mad from the off.

Fully expect the big boys to step up now.

Maybe but still its nice to see mostly close games and no blow outs. Though if the format was better and god forbid top players in top teams were playing 20 games less each season, might see couple Germany-Scotland type games.

Karel Poborsky and El Hadji Diouf are the first names that pop up. I'm sure there are worse examples

Yup.

Kleberson at United too.

Even someone like James Rodriguez, who was pretty well established, got a Real Madrid gig on the back of 2-3 games in the World Cup.

Always had a soft spot for Poborsky. Him and Diego Forlan were 2 pretty decent players who just never clicked.

Veron was literally world class but underwhelmed when Ferguson attempted to change to 4-3-3 a decade before it became trendy.

Imagine a midfield 3 of Scholes, Keane and Veron not really working.

Poborsky is like the poster-child for this stuff. Remember it so vividly, his chip, the Czech Republic being the surprise package of the tournament etc.

Don’t England only have 2 goals, too?

France is a penalty and an own goal…..though apparently their xG was like 6 or 7.
Yeah, look how far below the dotted line France are. As you can see several big teams have (seriously) underperformed so far

Belgium
France
Portugal
Spain

some are in fact on course, despite what you might think

England
Italy
the Netherlands

and of course the hosts are bucking the trend.

It's about to get a bit more serious though so maybe the big teams will raise their game.

I only just learned, unlike most stats, xG is not an exact science.

Apparently there is 3-4 different companies who do it, and they rarely agree.

Always assumed it was all from one source
