I recall that as well, but since when has things like lore mattered to Hollywood?

If they really wanted to girlboss the hell out of a Yautja story you could probably make a kickass movie about a high ranking female Yautja getting double crossed in a coup then going on a rampage until she's the queen.

Gladiator 1 fused with Jon Wick 1 with Predators, 70% of the film is the doom music kicking in and then she rips and tears her way through the Yautja capital city until it is done.

Standing at the top of predator palace / temple she holds up the severed head of the queen who betrayed her and roars.

Roll credit.

I'm gonna need at least a starship worth of humans to get slaughtered brutally, but yeah.

Of course. You can open the film with girlboss and her platoon boarding a human ship with a xenomorph outbreak and mowing down the few surviving space marines before torching all the eggs.

They need to learn how to make good movies first before they attempt that

It’s so strange the direction the predator franchise has taken. What we loved about the original predator was that it legit scared the shit out of you the first time you watched it. The mystery of an advanced alien life form you literally couldn’t see for half the movie was its strongest attribute. Essentially they’re trying to make a movie showing how the sausage is made. How in the hell is that supposed to be remotely thrilling or scary?

I appreciate the effort from so many posters in this thread so far, but there is a LOT of work to be done before this comes close to matching the PREY thread. That thread was a modern epic.

I understand the role of moderation, but it would also be nice to have an old archive of threads like that with none of the posts deleted.

For entertainment purposes.

Kind of looks like this one is smaller and a bit feminized?

I've only casually dipped a toe into this fandom, but I thought the Yautja were matriarchal and the females were bigger and nastier which is why the dudes are always out hunting while the psycho bitches run their homeworld.
I think it is a small teen. It has shorter dreadlocks.

Woopie.

how exciting.

First we have a girl beat it, now lets make a smaller wussier one.

Don't be so grumpy. Did you catch Prey yet?
Yes.

It was a step in the right direction. In that the Predator was a lone hunter who was a villain and they never needed any stupid fuckin origin story, and it just fucked people up until somebody was able to kill it.

I didnt like that he was offed by an english speaking little native girl with a comical sidekick dog, but the movie didnt suck, i liked it more than all the other movies after the 2nd one. But this is not saying much.

There is still things that need fixing. The glaring problem is the CGI faces of the Predators when they take the helmets off, it looks like wet dog shit every time. The first two movies? they looked AWESOME. They have never been able to come close to that shit, and sorry to say, that is one of the big appeals is how convincing the beast is. If it looks like shit, then it hurts the movie. The monster in Prey looked cool! until he took the helmet off. He looked like a crackhead predator.

Looks like El Fanning's character is a Weyland bot/android so I'm fully expecting another AVP spinoff if we're being consistent with that universe. Hopefully it doesn't suck. Can't say I'm a fan of them radically changing the appearance of the Predator in this one. I realize there are different races of Yautja and their/age experience can really change their outward appearance but it looks like they're going for a human/predator hybrid. And if that's the case then I'm a little less interested to be honest. Just feels like lazy writing at this point. I'm all for a predator being the protagonist but if this is truly the first time for that, let's get a genuine experience.

That was my thinking.... hybrid

Part of the issue is in the first two movies they didnt do much besides look big and intimidating. The Winston design is iconic, but certain angles look kinda silly (looking at you, side profile), and they could get around it easily since most of the time you just had to have it look menacing and then shoot a gun or throw a spear.

If it's protoganist character, I imagine they want to make it more relatable and emotable, and also be able to have it do things we haven't seen yet, especially in extended and detailed action sequences, which I imagine wouldn't be possible with the prosthetics of the original design. Thats always the problem with great physical designs from pre-cgi. They look great, but you have to shoot around the limitations. Movement was always minimal and any sort of modern action sequence would be close to impossible using the old designs without heavy cgi.

The easiest example is something like AVP: Requiem, which was ass but had a classic looking predator doing carnage. But if you really analyze it, it doesn't move or do much. It looks really sweet and then shoots a laser and something explodes. Quick cuts, no extended motion shots, etc.

Anyway, I'll give this a shot. Prey had so much hate before it came out and then it was solid. I assume a simular trajectory with this one.

The parts where there are action scenes, that can be worked around with nowadays tech. But the closeups oh yeaaaaa we need what we've been given. Anything less than that is garbage. Ass.

You deny us our '87 tech? Then don't make the movie then. Cos it's weak sauce.

Maybe one day they'll figure it out. I'm not against CGI for the sake of it. But good lord they drop the ball every time. Not just because it's not convincing but even the design itself is just not right.

Yea prey was better than I thought it would be and so it's possible this one will be too, but the big draw is a menacing beautiful mandible beast and they keep on depriving us of our rights!

Okay, so this looks absolutely fucking shocking. Prey was so decent, as well.

What the fuck is that Predator supposed to be? What the hell have they done to such an iconic / intimidating character?

Probably gonna be a pass from me.
