I was thinking a bit about the future sequels and we could finally get a (substitute) live-action Starcraft movie with the Yautja representing the Protoss, the Xenomorphs of course the Zergs and the humans/Weyland-Yutani the Terrans.

lol such an obvious inspiration hehhe

I wasnt fan of most of the Predator movies except for the OG and Prey before seeing Badlands. I liked it and would probably rank it just behind Prey. I was hoping that Runt would get more companions like in those RPG games. I would rank it somewhere between 8.6 to 9. It's good that they actually have the Yautja as the actual lead character

The comparisons are so clear when you said that that it made it pretty obvious where Blizzard drew inspiration. You even got cloaked dark templers, infected marines, Battlecruisers, adn acid blood Banelings. It is too bad that Blizzard never got the IP from Fox to make a Terran vs Xenomorph vs Predator game. We could have had PVT world built out in a game. I would rather be playing Weylandt Enterprises rather than Terran anyday.

There is probably a mod for that lol.

So I'm rewatching the predator films in the lead up to watching this. I've never The Predator before and I know everyone hates it. Is there anything redeeming about it at all, and is it even worth watching once or should I just skip it completely?

I just got out the theater watching it and enjoyed it very much, it's definitely been MCU-ified but I dont hold the Predator up as some holy untouchable cherished franchise anyways

When I saw the trailer, I wasnt too sure if I wanted root for a babyface Predator but I'll be darned, they did a really great job of creating a character and crafting a storyline that stayed true to the original genesis of the character but also made you see redeeming qualities in this guy while also appreciating his quest to be the most badass killing monster ever

It's like when the fans couldnt help but start cheering for the Road Warriors in the AWA back in 1985, they were too awesome not to love, same thing here

The Tool was great as the comic relief, especially when they first met and she wouldnt shut the fuck up as he carried her around

Appreciated the deadly planet of death at every step, just wish it wasnt so CGI heavy, woulda been so amazing with animatronics and practical effects

It was obvious what the baby was gonna turn out to be right away

The big blowoff at the job site was standard action packed chaos galore, decent but predictable

I liked the snake, wish he didnt, ya know...

The final showdown fit the story well, loved the final arrival LoL

Theaters have been pretty bare bones lately so it was nice to get another big bad ass sci fi explosion fest so i could munch on some popcorn and take in the action

5.8 Thumbs Up Outta 7

I have only seen it once (but plan to rewatch it sometime this year), so I'm forgetting a lot of the scenes. I think I like the scenes where the lone predator was hunting the kid and how they barely manage to escape it. I think I also appreciated the way the super predator moved in action. But yeah, you can probably skip watching The Predator (2018). I really hate that bracer and what it could do.

SKIP SKIP SKIP SKIP SKIP JUMP ROPE AND SKIP AGAIN. SKIPPY LONGSTOCKING. IF YOU DO WATCH IT GO TO THE DOCTOR FOR SOME TESTS AFTERWARD 'CAUSE IT IS CANCER.

imo

Finally got to see this last night. I fucking love this movie. My boy Danny T just knows how to get you invested in a story. He made me care about a killing machine and root for him. The only part that was distracting was when you first meet the android. I assume that was by design for her story arc though. I voted 9 out of 10. I’m very selective for movies I go to see, glad to support this one.

I think this was the best action movie I saw this year. The first 10 minutes really set the tone. No long as exposition. It was pretty blatant on how it setup Chekhov's guns but whatever. It felt like Mad Max: Fury Road in that it shows and doesn't tell and its primary goal is to keep the action moving. I popped some nicotine packets before the movie so I was feeling jazzed. I am getting to the point now where if I am going to an action movie, I want to be in a little altered state. Straight up fucking banger. The last time I was impressed by an action movie like this was Fury Road.
It's no ballerina

I honestly cant come up with a single reason to watch it. I actually did a rewatch last year thinking maybe it wasn't as bad as I recall. I suppose a couple of the one liners are kinda funny. And at the end of the day seeing some Predators do Predator shit is kind of cool, even if its a shitty movie. But that's about all I can think of.
