Recently went to a Whisky Shop a day after going to Rammstein, it's a shop from a small Whisky YouTuber that I watch and it's near Gelsenkirchen so I wanted to support the little business. Since I didn't buy much for a while, I got four lol, only had a couple of drams of each one I have tried so far, so keep that in mind:
- Longrow Peated: saw on the bottle code that it is a 2020 version, but Springbank distillery always delivers so it doesn't really matter. Not too much peat, vanilla, fruity, has a little bit of the Springbank 10. Nice Whisky for sure and for a decent price (45 at the shop, the 2024 version would be around 55€).
- Campbeltown Loch: basically a blend made by the Springbank distillery, likely just a little bit Glen Scotia in there. There are different batches, some really bourbon driven and light color, some darker sherry driven batches and some in between. In the shop there was a dark and really light batch, I went with the dark one, because the dude was really happy with that in a video lol. Haven't opened it, but Springbank never lets me down so. Under 50€ again.
Thompson Bros TB/BSW 6 years: A malt/grain blend that is once again Sherry driven, but really, really good. It got a lot of hype because they managed to make this blend so good that it can easily compete with old, hella expensive Sherry Whiskys, AND IT REALLY CAN! Tastes like dark cake along with the usualy Sherry notes. I will try it in a bigger Sherry blind tasting that spanish bae has to prepare for me, can't wait how that one performs there. 42€.
Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2024: I know that is one
@BAM has on the radar. In the shop there was the 2022, 2023 and 2024 version. Got the most expensive one, because that is the one that has at least some kind of age statement (at least 9 years), here I paid a little premium compared to online shops, 95€ (think one online shop had it at under 80 or so a few days later...). It IS a good, smoky Sherry Whisky with the beloved Kilchoman character. However, I must say that even at online shop special offer prices like 80€, this is overpriced. I have a Signatory Caol Ila Sherry 10 year old and so far that is better IMO, for a lot less money. Personally I would advise against the 2024 version at least, just get a dark Sanaig batch instead and try one of the many special editions that Kilchoman brings out, those with 50% (Sautern, Fino, PX, Cognac etc.), or 100% Islay versions etc..
