Pre-Izzy Paulo Costa hype train was real

he looked unreal against yoel. first one to bring him the fight. izzy broke him. you could tell durign the walk out to that fight the pressure got to him. He wont be the same again. he should go into acting or modeling.

He holds the record yes...but i dont think he's doing it for that purpose...

I think he does it cuz no1 is telling him differently and he wants to be the biggest guy out there...but its counter productive or even down right dumb to do it cuz if you miss you may not even get to fight...or like now he has to fight 205...

This is a coaching and personal discipline/attitude issue for sure...

Its crazy he can pull that weight cut off but id say thats more determination then discipline...imagine the mental strain or mental fortitude spent on cutting 28lbs 24 hrs before a fight with someone liKe Romero....its just an act of futility or cant be healthy over time

He is certainly doing it on purpose, mate. His whole fighting style is built around trading blow for blow and overwhelm his opponents, for which being the bigger/heavier fighter is very determinant.

If he slimmed down to 195lbs, as you suggested, first of all Im not sure he can do so, because he is a thick dude with a big frame, but if he does, he would not enjoy such a physical advantage over his opponents, which is his main asset. He would still be a tough guy but not sure if a top one.

I would favour Uriah Hall in a rematch vs a 195lbs Costa for example, based on what we saw in their first fight, where Hall showed better technical ability but eventually was overwhelmed by Costa's pressure and power. Im not sure Paulo could do the same with 20lbs less behind his strikes

I don't totally disagree but there would be almost no way of actually knowing this unless it happens..

Because for one think Uriah Hall is so dam inconsistent as a fighter...secondly although Costa does use a Juggernaut style currently a lighter and perhaps more mobile Costa could be a very dangerous out for anyone with the type of combinations he throws and he would not be so dead in the water against a guy like Izzy who simply out positioned him and was much more mobile then Costa which cost him the fight ..lastly even with slimming down hes still gunna be one of the strongest guys in the division his weight to muscle ratio is much higher then the average MW ..so strength is fair to say hes always gunna have just maybe not as much as before but he will gain freshness and cardio and most importantly mobility the key factor that hurt him against Izzy...

Sober, fully recovered hair transplant Costa is still undefeated.

He publicly emasculated the whole company by picking and choosing weight class on fight day, they couldnt do a damn thing about it. Confirmed goat.
Emasculated the whole company?

He got sodomised in the Octagon

he earned his hype. all of his fights were fun and entertaining and even his most recent loss was a good an entertaining fight
His best win was a debatable decision over geriatric Romero.

His other wins were Uriah Hall and the ghost of Johnny Hendricks.

The hype train said he was going to destroy Adesanya and thought he was a serious contender.

Personally I do think he was a good contender, he got beat soundly by adesanya but i do think he beats many in the division.

People are acting like he sucks, sure he’s a head case, and made a total embarrassment of himself with the excuses, but he’s a pretty damn good fighter.

It was fun while it lasted.

Not me.. I always thought he and oldmero were overrated

Really? I didn’t get the hype at all. He was just a big strong guy. I didn’t see anything impressive out of him skills wise. But then again, MMA stand-up is so trash that I guess a guy just wildly plowing forward with no defense is impressive to a lot of fans. I did find him funny leading up to the Izzy fight, though.

I think that title belongs to ronda rousy. people are saying she can beat mayweather lol wtf
Ronda was the biggest hype job in history but that Mayweather thing is stupid and always gets taken out of context. I’m pretty sure what was actually said was that she could beat Mayweather with grappling, which isn’t really that wild considering that they’re about the same size and Mayweather has no grappling experience at all.

His performance against Izzy was possibly the worst title fight performance I've ever seen. Everyone likes to give Aldo that title for the McGregor fight, but realistically, that was just one big mistake.

Costa literally did nothing. He let Izzy kick him in the legs for two rounds before realizing that he was a few shots away from being unable to walk, at which point he just forced his way in and got TKOd by the counter puncher. You can give Izzy credit like people do, but honestly, it was his easiest night at the office.

Things that get fans hyped up:

1. lots of muscles
2. undefeated record
3. "handsome"
4. talk shit

Costa had all 4 going for him, which is why shockingly he was slightly favoured on Sherdog over Izzy, despite there being a huge difference in technical striking ability. Points 1, 3, & 4 shouldn't be a big factor in hype trains but its a reflection of society

She was quite happy to entertain talk that there were men on the roster that she could beat

i assumed he'd submit izzy since his brother is a BJJ wizard, figured he's just not using his bjj because he wants to become a star in the ufc lmao boy was i wrong he got cucked live on the octagon
