I don't blame him for doing whatever it takes. It is the UFC's fault. The UFC is quick to punish the fighter who actually makes the weight, when they refuse to fight an unprofessional opponent.
So, if you are the fighter struggling to make the cut. It makes no sense killing yourself. Just say you can't make the weight, and put all the pressure on the guy who already made weight. If he turns down the fight, the UFC won't pay. So, chances are he is going to fight, and you will have a huge size advantage.
Missing weight favors the fighter who is struggling to cut, and puts all the stress on the fighter who made the cut, because it becomes his fault, if he turns down the fight against an overweight opponent. The fans will call him a coward and the UFC will cheat him on the pay.
