Yoshihiro Takayama, one half of the most memorable brawl in mixed martial arts history, has been paralysed from the neck down after suffering a spinal chord injury.

Hmm, I was under the impression it was a botched Sunset flip as per Dave Meltzer, not a ddt spot like ts mentioned. Either way tragic end to a legendary japanese wrestlers career.

Sadly the outlook is not good. Doctors initial diagnosis was there was pretty much no chance of recovery and that he will be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life.

On a positive note he is now able to breathe on his own and is still not giving up hope. Doctors are going to discuss possible rehab measures. The overall outlook is still bleak though.

The DDT wrestling promotion (where he got injured) and Minoru Suzuki (Takayama's friend and frequent tag team partner) announced the creation of TAKAYAMANIA foundation with the goal of helping pay for Takayama's medical bills and provide financial support. Donation boxes are expected to be set up at many pro wrestling shows as Takayama was a well traveled and respected veteran.
