Does anything exist that shows the amount of PPV buys by where they come from? Like businesses vs individuals? I imagine sports bars make up a significant percentage of all PPV buys because they can profit from them and that individuals paying full price for a PPV are few and far between these days. These are just my guesses so I'd like to know if there's somewhere to find the real data

Dave Meltzer used to do this, probably still does..

Using his insider contacts with buys from the PPV platforms...kinda not possible anymore. Otherwise if it was a good show Dana would say how well it did.

These days the ppv sale numbers and how well “it did” all seem to come from random dudes on Twitter with a “unknown source”. It’s inconsistent and mostly seems to be guesses from guys trying to generate traffic from what I can tell.

In other words, these days we cant even get numbers, let alone where they come from

I don't know if it changes the buy numbers but I do know that businesses pay ALOT more for PPV's based on their capacity. Like a small bar that can fit about 30-40 people would pay upwards of 2k for the PPV.

I highly doubt the ppv numbers have ever been accurate.

our best source is a guy who heard it from another guy.

It used to be that PPVs were funneled through the cable providers, so there were enough middlemen not associated with the UFC to leak PPV sales numbers. Now that the UFC has an exclusive deal with ESPN, they've got it locked down.

People try to guestimate based on Prelim card ratings, etc., but they're always using estimates to make comparisons. "ESPN said UFC 252 sold 500K and prelims averaged 830K viewers...THEREFORE if UFC 253 had 523K viewers then they must've sold 393K PPV buys." The buyer has to purchase directly from ESPN, so ESPN/UFC can release PPV numbers and there's now reliable way to audit or confirm. That's why we now get ridiculous numbers like USMAN/BURNS doing 1.6M PPV sales LMFAO.

And between that and the fact Nevada doesn't give out pay details anymore (which was incomplete even when they did), maybe sherdog should put a cap on all "numbers" threads.

Wouldn't that be something, heh.

AGREEEEED. People throwing out PPV #'s are fucking clueless. That's why you can't guess what fighters are getting paid on PPV sales either, because we have no idea how much an event actually sold. And I think the UFC is probably paying a hell of a lot less now with the ESPN deal because they (UFC/Dana White/Endeavor) negotiated a guaranteed 500K PPV sales EVERY event. Their position is, "we're getting the first 500K with or without you, so no reason to give you a cut."

Since they went to streaming on ESPN+ I don't think there is any reliable third party source for numbers.
