Anyone have any experiences with the Steam Link Streaming device?

I am currently in the process of moving, and I really like the idea of having my main gaming PC in the basement (its ice cold and will allow for better overclocks), and remote in from a client PC in my office.

I did a test run using my laptop and desktop using Steam's built in streaming service (Steam Link isn't required) and it was "OK" - I did it over a wireless AC network, so latency was an issue. I didn't really get a good sense of performance because of the connectivity issues, but the premise is super promising. For "slower" paced games like Civ 5 and Dragon Age, it was amazing.

If possible, I will try and hardwire Cat 6 cable to all my devices when I make the move.

Anybody ever use the Steam Link (or other streaming services). Is gaming remotely possible or a pipe dream?

I have a Steam Link but I don't use it. The way my apartment is setup my PC doesn't have access to a working Ethernet jack so it's wireless. The steam link I connect to the router but I think since the PC is wireless it makes the stream not ideal. FPS wise it seems fine and no input delay BUT some games graphics would go to shit sporadically (Fallout 4). It's been a while since I used it so idk if updates made it a bit better or if I need to wait until my PC is wired connection to make it usable

I like it for anything that doesn't require precise movement; strategy games, turn based games etc. But if I'm playing Rocket League or a first person shooter then no dice.

Edit: a friend said that Crypt of the Necrodancer was completely impossible to play with the link. Makes sense.

It works great for my but I happen to have it hardwired to the router. I've heard a lot of people say it doesn't really work wirelessly though, which is kind of silly since most people who can hardwire it could just as easily use an HDMI cable. But if you're a rate person like me who already had a router line run to the tv, it's great

It's funny you mention the HDMI thing - I decided to go that route, and drop an HDMI cord through the cold air return from the office into the basement. I'm having some issues getting a USB cord to work effectively at a range of 40 feet (or more specifically, there isn't enough power to the passive USB hub), but I hope to have tha figured out soon.

I really like the idea behind Steamlink though - the thought of being able to game from any network enabled device and have one "gaming" rig is very appealing.

Mine works perfectly. As others mentioned, don't run it over wireless. My house has network drops in each room so connecting multiple steambox/streamers to a main gaming rig is pretty easy.
