In April 1985, British Airways were trialing a Concorde up and down the North Sea. When they offered it as a target to NATO fighters, Mike and his team spent the night before in the hangar polishing XR749 which he borrowed from the LTF for the occasion, and the next day overhauled Concorde at 57,000 ft and travelling at Mach 2.2 by flying a stern conversion intercept. "Everyone had a bash - F-15s, F-16s, F-14s, Mirages, F-104s - but only the Lightning managed to overhaul Concorde from behind".

Even able to intercept a U2 at 66,000 ft and then climb past it to 80,000 ft.........records of it reaching 87,000 ft, biggest issue was it's fuel consumption and lack of storage for weapons......

It actually wasn't a very good interceptor because of the fuel issue and only really good at intercepting the TU 95, anything faster could just make a 5 degree course correction on timing known interception times for the RAF and picking up the ground based radar..........

it's true it's the only COMPLETE one.
there is another chassis somewhere. Same plane. Just the chassis. It could be used to rebuild the destroyed plane.

But...first there's the issue of Russia being in the way. I don't see that situation resolving soon at all. It's going to get a lot worse.
