First a little self-fellating. I'm a big dude. Fat even. Perhaps severely obese. Not too long ago, I weighed ~270 pounds. Today, I weighed in at 236.4. I've somehow lost nearly 20 pounds since the beginning of December alone. I've been watching my calories, but also walking. A lot.

I started at a mile a day. I gradually added portions to my walk. Now I walk 5 miles twice a day.

My past exercise has been lifting related, so I'm used to doing a hard workout and then having pretty bad soreness for the next few days.

However, that hasn't been the case with walking. I warm up by starting slow and picking up the pace as I go. I stretch afterwards. But after I sit down, my legs get really sore to the point of being super painful to walk. It gradually goes away after a couple of hours, and I'm as good as new.

Is this normal? Walking bruhs, help me out.

Damn, that's a shitload of walking. Yes, it's normal to have sore legs. I'd ask how your knees are doing, and your ankles. It sounds like those are holding up well since you didn't mention them. If that's the case, just keep doing what you're doing homey. Losing weight the healthy way, well done.

Try an epsom salt warm or hot bath, cold showers, stretching, and putting your legs on the wall like this so blood can drain.

Consider treating yourself to a massage as well.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a try.

My left knee gets kinda sore, but I've had issues with it in the past, and I'm hopeful that being more active (and losing weight) will help it more than hurting it. And it's only sore while I'm late in the walks, and it feels better pretty much immediately once I sit down for a few minutes.

Well as long as you're not getting shin splints or plantar fasciitis or something horrible, the muscle soreness will probably lessen over time.

But damn, 10miles daily seems like a lot... thats 16km homie.

Well I'm sure your knees will love you as you keep losing all that weight, less workload for them. Yeah I would just say be mindful of that, take notice if your knee gets worse, better, or stays the same as time goes on.

hey man first congrats on the weight loss, keep up the good work, and walking is a very underrated but great exercise, even better if you go for walks uphill, 5 miles twice a day is a lot man and you are still heavy so idk, maybe wear a knee pad on the knee you feel hurt, dont want an injury to mess up all the progress you have made

cut back to once a day (w/less distance), see how it feels.

I just put on a podcast and walk, haha. I feel great during the walks. It's just a lot of soreness for a while afterwards.

Cocaine will help cut some pounds

Look up endurox, lots of runners use this post run to help with cramping and soreness.

I used to run a lot and a marathon runnig friend of mine turned me onto it.

Works great

How many hours a day of walking is that? Please keep us updated on your progress.

I used to walk a lot when I didn't have a car and my job required I stand all day. Probably on the order of 8-9mi on a working day and 6-7mi on a school day. I was young though and the only pain I suffered was when I stood in place for long periods.

I slept amazingly well though.

The soreness will eventually go away. You're just building up capacity to work. I wouldn't worry too much about joint soreness unless they're excessively sore; walking isn't high-impact. And if you continue to lose weight, the impact will be even less. Furthermore, walking is one of the healthiest things you can do for your overall health. Keep up the good work. Though you may want to wait awhile before you increase your workload.

Yup, that's your bones going "not yet bro."

But it'll get easier with time and less weight. When I gain weight and try to run, I can run, but eventually I develop shin splints because my body can't handle all that weight with the running regime I do.

Usually when I'm below 175, my body can handle it. Haven't been above it in years.

My guess is that you've accumulated a fair bit of mileage and are behind on recovery and probably need to cut down your walking schedule and lump together a few sessions into one big walking day - so instead of walking 14x/wk, it might be better to walk 7x/wk with a day off during the week to enhance recovery and walk a longer distance on 1 or 2 days.

Foam roller, foam roller, foam roller.

Great job! Keep doing what you are doing, the soreness is normal, walking is very good if you are overweight, it is low impact, and it burns calories. I think walking is the most underrated exercise there is. Keep up the good fight!

I've heard that shitloads of Xanax is good for this
