• Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version.

Post fun facts or observations about places you travelled that people might not know.

Example: Norway's food isnt that great in general, but their 7-11's kick ass,and offer way more hot food variety than the ones we have here. Also they are everywhere and some open all night, which is a rarity in that country. This particular one in Bergen got alot of my business.

If you camp in Yosemite national Park, you'll likely hear voices at night yelling "Elmer!"

The story was that a little boy named Elmer got lost in the park and was never found. So every night, people call out to him just in case he's still out there.

When I was a kid, people said Elmer was retarded. But since that's not politically correct anymore it seems that part of the legend has been removed.

So if you're ever in Yosemite, while you're sitting around the campfire after dark, feel free to just yell at the top of your lungs, "EEEEEELLLLLMERRR!!!"

People stop between 9 and 10. Don't be the asshole that yells it at 3am.

In Norway, Security will actually throw people out for being drunk, which is amazing to me.

A friend of ours was noddin off, sittin down not botherin anybody, and they threw him out of the bar ! lol

As a New yorker I couldnt believe it.

In Italy, they really be doin this, in case y'all wondered.

In Rhode Island, during the winter be careful where you take a deuce. I took one at a Walgreens and the toilet seat was ice cold.

Hawaii 7-11 is a subsidiary to Japan 7-11, not the U.S., hence why the 7-11s in Hawaii are really good.

Aren’t you from the Philippines? That’s Murica. Anyway, America is weird because you will get lulled into a false sense of security, then some crazy shit will happen right in front of you. Like the other day, this homeless guy just decided to save his dick at me.
As if that's exclusive to America

I appreciate art,and work for an art museum,so to see this is of great interest to me,to see how its run,and what art is there.
I was a little upset that the entire Egypt part was closed for renovation when I went there. Napoleon's apartment is super cool tho!

The Egypt part at the MET is super cool though...which I guess brings up my fun fact; you dont have to pay to go in the MET in NYC. Sure, there is a board with prices, but they are suggested donations or something (granted this was 10 years ago, perhaps they've changed that)

Also the round room of Versailles at the MET is amazing

It commonly said that Japanese are extremely polite and their service sectors have great working ethics. But imho, Taiwanese are ahead in both categories having visited both more than once. I've been to Taiwan 6 or 7 times.

I went paragliding in Taiwan couple of years back, had my hotel called them to make sure weather was fine before I head up to the hill/mountain. After the completing the experience, I went hiking around the area. 2 to 3hrs later, I received a text from the boss of the paragliding saying that they are closing soon because of typhoon warnings, asked if I'm still around and needed a ride down hill because they saw me heading up and remembered I was a solo tourist. I only saw the text 20mins after it was sent and it took me over another 30mins to get back to the meeting point. They waited for me, fetched me down hill AND to the nearest train station.

The fact that they remembered a single customer as a tourist, saw me head uphill and took the effort to ask if I needed help leaving the hill couple of hours AFTER I left their area is very heart warming.

I like this post. I hadn't noticed you live in NYC before i posted that, i'm sure you are well aware. So, I presume you've seen that Versailles room? That's probably my favorite exhibit in either place...

Tell us more about Mongolia.

It's the unseasoned food black people make fun of white people for. LOL it is the white pipo food of Asia. They have really good quality meat. You can see the yellow fat on the grass fed meat.

Some stuff is too much for me. The cubes of fat and the boiled meat is bland. Their food taste sour, earthy and sometimes just fatty. It's not a regional thing. Central Asian countries use spices and eat tasty things.

That’s kinda normal for clubs in major cities. They don’t want people to die or OD inside. I got into a fight one time because I went with my ex GF to a club. We got a table but I was up since 6 am. I started to nod off around midnight and the bouncer wouldn’t leave me alone. I might have called him a bootleg Razor Ramon and he got really mad.

In Philly, skip the whole Geno's vs. Pat's nonsense and get your cheesesteak somewhere else at any mom & pop shop. It'll be better.

In Pittsburgh, skip Primonti Bros. and get your sandwich somewhere else at any mom & pop shop. It'll be better.

A few from my corner of the world:

Buenos Aires - Argentina (City) despite being a metropolis is super safe. You only have to avoid certains areas which have nothing interesting to tourists (except for La Boca and Caminito).
Patagonian region is known to be beautiful during the winter but it is probably more beautiful in spring/summer.

Both in Piriapolis (Uruguay) and Buzios (Brazil) EVERY car stop to let peasants cross the street. It is so nice to walk there.

Chileans are super cool with argentinians... despite the myth that we hate eachother.

This is what people from Southern Brazil look like. White Brazilians from the south hate being associated with the typical Rio type Brazilians you see in the US.

I'm not fact checking this so take it with a grain of salt... but I think certain Nazis went to Brazil and founded some communities.

I was in south Brazil twice many years ago (in Uruguaiana for work and in Camboriu for vacations) and there were a lot of blonde people.. certainly more than in Rio where I was last week.

In Reykjavik Iceland all the restos stop serving food after 9pm. They may stay open til 11 but they only serve beer after 9.

So make sure you got food in your house if you want real food past that time. I took long road trips and got fucked by that.

They do have a 7-11 type store called 10-11 tho if u wanna get that kinda shit (it's really expensive though) or theres some paki places or burger street shops that cater to the late nite drunks.
Here in Argentina most kitchens open at around 20 and most people have dinner at around 22. Some foreigns get hungry until they get used to.
We can handle it because he have a food between lunch and dinner that is called "merienda" which is like a second breakfast.
