Pop's class act

Always liked Pop.

I remember in 2006 i believe, the last time the Kings made the playoffs with the Artest/Bonzi Wells tandem we played the Spurs in the first round. It was actually a very good series that went 6 games but the Spurs murdered the Kings in game 1. It was a blowout and in the final seconds of the game where most teams would dribble the ball out somebody passed the ball to Nazr Mohammad who decided to launch a three with a few seconds on the clock...and he made it. Total dick move.

Buzzer went off and then you see the winning coach Pop completely pissed off run up to Nazr and totally rip him a new one for rubbing it in. Then waved to Rick Adelman in a "sorry man, no disrespect" gesture.

Always thought Pop was the man and one of the greatest coaches of all time. I can't think of a coach that can consistently keep everybody on the same page and humble...plus, there is very few players you couldn't put on the Spurs and Pop wouldn't find a way to make them super effective. Even Phil Jackson couldn't keep ego's in check at all time, and sometimes his got too big. I guess it helps when a team player like Duncan is your star all these years but Pop is like a mix of Phil Jackson, Jerry Sloan, Don Nelson...Great system(Phil), toughness that demands respect(Sloan), and a guy players like playing for..players coach(Like Nelson and Adelman)

While you're right, and Pop is one hell of a coach; definitely one of the best of all time..but as you said..handling Duncan/Parker/Manu is a hell of a lot easier than handling Kome and Shaq.

Pop is a no-nonsense kind of guy, but that goes both ways. You know he respects most of the guys in the NBA, be it players, coaches, or the reporters. He's competitive on the court, but I don't think there was ever any doubt that he's a good guy.
