Unlikely. To even be considered for the top job, a candidate will have spent at least forty years rising through the ranks of an extremely conservative and traditional hierarchy. By the time they sit on the golden throne, most will take the view that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Grew up Lutheran and currently non denominational so clueless regarding catholic policies, how do they choose a new pope? Is it a vote from the cardinals? Is there a vice pope already in line?

I had no clue about it either and I guess I still don't know regarding modern times but I watched a tv show called "The Borgias" (based on history) and if it's anything at all like that still there's a lot of internal intrigue going on and people trying to claw their way to power or claw themselves to be the closest men to the pope by any means necessary

RIP Francis. As Pope’s go he was actually very “Christ Like” in his acceptance of the poor and disenfranchised. I hope they don’t replace him with some reactionary that’s going to undo the last 50 years of progress the Church has desperately needed.

Pope Francis selected the majority of the currrent members of the College of Cardinals so there is a theoretically good chance that we get a successor who will follow in Francis' footsteps .
