So, according to CNN (my only American TV news source in a hotel in Japan), he needs at least one (D) vote.

How do you rate his chances?

Can we get a poll going, say, more or less than about 90%?

He will easily get one democrat, he just needs to get close to Schumer and say

"Lets bomb Iran" in French in order to get his panties wet.

Chairman Corker opening remarks, in the past, I’ve been able to have people unarrested after they’ve been arrested but I can’t do it anymore so (paraphrasing from here) please behave because once the process starts we can’t stop it.

LOL

Oh and Pat Roberts’ opening remarks, fluffy bullshit.

He'll be confirmed 50+VP vote. Dems will vote against him based on his anti-LGBTQ history, though Schumer will make sure he's ultimately confirmed because he'll find Iran in breach and rip up the Iran Nuke Agreement.

Rand will not vote against him unless Dems are voting for him. He will not be the vote that derails the nomination. McCain is due back in DC soon I read though, so that could be an out for Rand - vote against it but McCain is in town to vote for it while singing "Bomb, bomb Iran".

The guy won't answer a single question...

Latest: Pompey prevaricated re:Iran deal question. To me, that’s enough to say no. He can’t give a straight answer to a straight question.

Edit: way to inb4 me Zeb. I totally agree. GREASY.

He doesn't seem to able to give a straight answer to any questions. I somewhat liked this guy before but 10 minutes into this hearing and I just don't understand how these people get confirmed when they wont answer questions

My assumption on this is that these hearings are not really about laying out two sides of an argument for accepting or rejecting the nominees. They are overwhelmingly about finding reasons to reject them, so refusing to answer questions is a really effective exploit. By the end of the hearing, a guy who doesn't answer any tough questions hasn't given any reason for rejection. It's as if the person is pre-confirmed.

Because he only doesn't get confirmed if he says something inflammatory. Say nothing at all and it's a "Team Red vs Team Blue" vote and he has the numbers. Gorsuch was the same way and all future hearings will be carried out in this manner because it will always be party line votes.

McConnell started blocking all Obama nominees, so Reid nukes the filibuster on those so it only needed 50+VP, which got the nominations confirmed, but removed any ownership in the process from the opposition party. Pompeo doesn't need any Dem Votes do doesn't have to say anything or answer any of their questions legitimately because he doesn't need them. He needs to keep 50 Republicans happy, and they default to support him unless he says something that blows up in the MSM. Say nothing and he's confirmed.

Explain. CNN says they need at least 1 Democrat vote to confirm him. Are they mistaken?

Rand Paul is not voting for him and John McCain isn't in Washington so I think that only leaves 49 republicans

Exactly, so why is Shoeless saying they don’t need dem votes. They do.

Yes. Committee is 11-10 GOP and Paul is threatening to vote against it, meaning party line vote would be 10 GOP for and 10 Dems against with Paul voting against as well.

McConnell however can still bring the nomination to the floor regardless and will do so, so it doesn't NEED one Dem vote.

And once on the floor it's 51-49 GOP. Even if Paul votes against him, McCain IS due back in Washington soon and you can be damn sure he'd make it there to confirm a nominee who guaranteed an Iran War. That gets you 50-50 and VP Pence breaks the tie.

All is moot though as Pompeo probably gets 4-5 Dems.

Yes. And?
Just wondering. probably looking for ways to use State Dept. funds to developer fun things for spouses to do and gossip in social circles. You know, official business stuff.
