Poirier's chin

Chandler hit Poirier with some absolute bombs and DP just took them. I'm not really a big fan of either, but you gotta respect Dustin's chin, not to mention his patience.

Discuss...if you want
Chandler really look like he had him in the second round. Crazy comeback.

I was pulling for Chandler but after that fish hook I'm glad Dustin won.

Cheater cheater pumpkin eater

He’s more composed now and most of those bombs Chandler landed were on a back pedaling Dustin.

Dustin was sturdy and composed in there.
Like you can't really ko him with raw power you need to be more tricky.

Hunto was KOd as well. Guess he didn´t have an excellent chin either.
Yes. Honestly I think that people are mistaken to thing that he has excellent chin. Guess when fighter is prone to eat many shots, people just think that he has good chin. Excellent chins in my opinion are Max Holloway and Marvin Vettori. Also Canelo and GGG made a career in boxing partially because of excellent chin.

His durability is on a whole different level when he doesn't have to cut weight to make 145.

It is bizarre his chin has gone from very suspect to very solid.

You often see it go the other way but rare when a glassy chin gets better with age.

Yes, Poirier played possum here. He lucky Goddard didn't ref that fight.
Really fun fight for that reason. Chandler gassed. Still somehow took top r2. But was unable to do too much gnp probably Bc tired.

Poirier is amazing.
The guy has no athletic abilities.
He looks stiff when he is chasing someone.
He is slow. He still can get the job down because of his technical abilities.

he has one hole in his game. He thinks he is better than he is.
Jumping Guillotine against Khabib and offer him a position on the ground is overestimating yourself.
In the Oliveira fight he should have done everything to prevent Oliveira taking his back. He doesn’t have the awareness in crucial moments or he is overestimating his ability to get out of critical positions.

he is not disciplined in fights. He gets away against most fighters. They don’t have the fight IQ to punish his mistakes.

Chandler got him hurt against the fence and shoots a takedown on him. Chandler is so dumb.
He punches when he has to take someone down. He takes someone down if he has to punch.

Kattar´s chin is pretty unreal, although having a chin instead of a defense isn´t a great long-term gameplan -_-

Yeah I think Chandler could've won if he'd decided to wrestle instead of put on a show, but man Poirier looked great. I hope they don't send him to the TS again...I hope Dariush gets the next shot after Volk

Chandler literally loses his head. That fight was his to lose after round two.

I now really want to rewatch this fight.

When dustin lost to conor in their first fight, he was one of the examples i used to justify conors soft tko wins. Dustin went down, but wasnt out. Neither were a few other of conors wins. Only one conor got was aldo and it took aldo running into it to crystallize it.

I think he covered up and it didn’t look as bad as we initially thought. Chandler took the bait

{<huh}

Dustin literally told Joe in his post-fight interview he was hurt so bad he couldn't see, but luckily Chandler was throwing looping shots instead of straight shots which would've taken him out.

Rogan: "It was a wild, wild fight, and a wild first round in particular. There was moments that you got caught. Were you in trouble?"

Poirier: "Of course! Over here, against the wall, I couldn't see what he was throwing. Good thing he throws looping, if he'd a threw straight, he probably would have got me out of here man."

Dustin was covering up completely blind and flailing his arms praying anything coming would be Chandler's trademark looping shots. Luckily for him, they were (and that Chandler eventually decided to go for a TD).

It was the same thing in Conor 2. Poirier again said he got hurt and "flashed", but that Conor never followed up on it to make it matter:

“He hurt me with the left hand,” he said. “Nothing went, but he flashed me good.

“If he would have pressured and I would have gotten hit again, I think I would have been really hurt.”

Poirier's chin has never improved. People just fight him really stupidly and so don't actually end up hitting him when he's hurt, and he's a much more seasoned veteran nowadays who can stay calm and maintain his defence around his opponent's tendencies even when he's hurt.

He definitely has a good chin, but don’t forget about his defense. I like how he blocked Chandler’s overhand on multiple occasion.
