Media Poirier gives us the answer that some of us have asked

Jesus, this thread doesn't have shit to do with Islam. You need help, lol.

Lol it's about underestimating Oliveira.

Poirier said that Islam would be his toughest matchup (while Oliveira was already champ). Some would interpret this as not giving the champ his due.

That's how the quote relates to this topic

He said Islam would be his toughest matchup but that doesn't mean he's underestimating Oliveira or thinks he's overrated...just means he knows Islam would be harder to beat than Oliveira
Yeah but Khamzat would beat Islam and Poirier and I am sure Poirier would agree to that. It's why I never see him call out Khamzat....................................................

Oliveira is good though. Probably gonna upset Poirier.

Never talk trash about your opponent. If you win and they're a bum... so what, you beat a bum. If you lose and they're the best, well, no shame in losing to the best.

exactly. I think poirer by early ko. I don’t think it will go past 2.
Oliviera is dangerous offensively. As well as poirer but poirer is better defensively and can take as much as he gives.
Charles not so much.

Crazy, of all the welterweights that Islam constantly calls out, he doesn't call out Khamzat

Guys like Olivera need to prove themselves as champions to fans. Early on fans will doubt them cause they have several losses. And history doesn't really support champions like Olivera. If we look back at champions like Jan, RDA, Alverez, Lawler, Rockhold, Werdum, etc.....these guys have several losses generally defend the belt anywhere from 0 to 2 times max. The champions that hold on to the belt a long time, are the ones that have a history of being more dominant and almost no losses. There are the exceptions, but for the most part.
This is true, and it never crossed my mind that the dominant champs tend to have great records before they become champs.

Understandable. He respects that it probably wouldn't end well for him.

I thought it was gonna be him admitting his big boobied wife was in Conor's DMs. Hahaha

I don't even like Conor but that shit had me dying when he said that broken leg and all

I'm excited! Two guys in their primes fighting for the belt. No wolf tickets needed!

Dustin aware of 75% of mma community are dumb af and that mma math / history dictates the future. If you're in the minority of the court of public opinion then you're doing something right.

Stfu. I like Islam because khabib does too. You're just cringe.

Yeah a lot of big fighters make a point to praise their opponents after winning, solely because it makes them look better.

Trash talk garners more popular interest and raises the stakes of the fight for both parties which can actually affect the fight, perhaps make it more exciting, or alternatively as had happened, turn it into a real borefest as one fighter spitefully tries to stifle the fight

It can be a good move to let your opponent know your not underestimating him, if he is trying to be a dark horse, it can kind of take the fire out of them

Agree 100%

Tbf Islam is everyone's toughest match up stylewise, but it remains to be seen if he's the best LW in the world. Personally, I have Islam as a favorite over anyone he fights at LW. I say that being objective, BC Do Bronx and Conor are my favorite LW's.

dude if Charles wins the division will step out of the shadow of Khabib, but I love Poirier so much he is very charismatic and humble I expect him to win.
Would be nice if Khabib comes out of retirement to fight Oliveira after Oliveira beats Dustin, Justin and Islam.
